Audience Researcher

Summary of Position
Working with the Manager of Audience Research, the Audience Researcher will design and execute Newsday research efforts, utilizing primary research and syndicated sources. Overseeing multiple projects from the inception and development phase through the completion of the project will become part of your daily routine. You will be working with stakeholders across the organization to build research studies that generate actionable audience insights aimed at informing business strategy.
Essential Duties & Functions
Responsibilities
- Execute all phases of in-house primary research projects, including target audiences, questionnaire design, data collection, and analysis, reporting and presentation
- Partner with consumer data analytics staff for research sampling and advanced modeling on research insights.
- Participate in qualitative and/or quantitative research projects with outside vendors in concert with research manager as warranted
Essential Job Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to design a study; write/edit a questionnaire; design analytic plan for a study; conduct appropriate analysis and write quantitative reports/presentations.
- Ability to interpret and present research results.
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize research findings to “tell a story” utilizing various sources of information, with action-oriented implications is critical.
- Comprehensive knowledge of a variety of quantitative and qualitative research techniques and knowledge of basic statistics required.
- Familiarity with programming and survey link testing using survey programming tools (eg, Forsta) and an understanding of how to transfer questionnaire designs to an online programming platform.
- Familiarity with various research techniques (concept testing, tracking studies, conjoint, etc) a plus
- Experience analyzing unstructured data (text analytics, sentiment analysis, content coding) a plus
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) a must, especially in-depth knowledge of spreadsheet and graphics packages.
- Experience with Adobe Analytics (Experience Cloud); Nielsen Scarborough; Claritas a plus.
- Experience with SQL or SPSS or comparable statistical software package a plus.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- BA or BS degree in research or similar discipline accompanied by 5 or more years in primary research experience at either a full-service market research firm or corporation. Media experience a plus.
- Experience with various quantitative and qualitative research methodologies required.
- Excellent Project Management skills with attention to detail are required.
- Experience managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment without sacrificing accuracy is a must.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deliverable dates in time while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience interfacing with senior management a plus
- Experience presenting information to diverse audiences and speaking effectively
- Knowledge of branding, marketing and customer experience a plus
Physical Requirements
- Employees are generally required to work in the office and/or out in the field a minimum of three (3) days per week.
Compensation
- The salary range for this position is $77,000 to $85,000, commensurate with experience.
