Our client, a leading provider of engineering and safety services to the

U.S. Rail and Transit Industry , is seeking a

Remote Director of Signal Design Engineering

that holds a

PE license . This role includes a competitive compensation package with a bonus of up to 25%.

All the relevant skills, qualifications and experience that a successful applicant will need are listed in the following description.As the Director, you will lead and shape the Signal & Communication team. This role involves making key decisions that significantly impact the organization. The ideal candidate will demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in managing extensive programs and activities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Lead and mentor the Signal & Communication team, overseeing project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and design.Manage financial and technical aspects of all Signal & Communication projects.Oversee department budgets, including employee utilization, workload, and controlling G&A expenses.Ensure compliance with company SOPs, safety rules, and procedures.Collaborate with the Business Development team to grow the Signal & Communication practice through regular client meetings.Represent the company at industry events, including AREMA and REMSA/RSSI conferences.Act as a technical resource for the Signal & Communication department.Review and maintain FRA inspection and hours of service reports.Conduct quarterly safety audits for field employees.Lead the team through the successful completion of projects.Seek a well-networked individual to drive business development for the signaling department.The role requires up to 75% travel nationwide, with some periods as low as 30%.Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Proficiency in electronic communications and standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).Strong verbal and written communication skills.Extensive knowledge of FRA Parts 234, 236, 228, and 246, including railroad signal system safety rules and certification requirements.Ability to prepare and deliver technical reports, presentations, and working papers.Strong organizational and strategic planning skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion.Required Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program.10+ years of experience in railroad signal design, construction, installation, inspection, maintenance, and testing (ABS, CTC signal circuits, interlocking, and grade crossing warning systems).Preferred Education & Experience:

Master’s degree in engineering.20+ years of experience in railroad signaling and communications, including Positive Train Control (PTC) expertise.Proven business development skills and established relationships with railroad and transit clients.Commitment to lifelong learning to stay current on industry trends.Certifications:

Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent, or authorization of CLPO.Active membership in professional organizations, recognized as a national expert or spokesperson in the field.Supervisory Responsibilities:
