The Diversity and Inclusion Internship Program at The Henry Ford is a cohort-based program that offers professional development, mentorship, and networking opportunities. We invite diverse candidates* who are curious about careers in the museum world to become a part of our legacy and take it forward.

For Winter 2025, internships will last 15 weeks, projected to begin on January 21 and conclude on May 2.

How will we work together?

The

Geographic Information Systems

(GIS) Analyst Intern

can expect to work hybrid. Based on specific project needs, there are times when you and the team will work on-site at The Henry Ford's campus in Dearborn, MI or other locations in the Metro Detroit area.

The GIS Analyst Intern will have the opportunity to work directly with the lead innovator of the Innovation Atlas, our Head of Analytics & Business Intelligence, to contribute to the success of ongoing and forthcoming projects. As our GIS Analyst Intern, you can expect to receive guidance and training that meets you where you are and prepares you for where you want to go.

Potential projects for the internship include building interactive map experiences, developing impact and success stories, and delivering marketing/audience segments.

What should you have?

An academic background that includes Geographic Information Systems, Urban Planning, Policy & Research, and a passion for equity, access, and inclusion.Proficiency in working with ESRI and supporting products (ArcGIS, Experience Builder, Business Analyst, Field Map Editor, etc.)Basic knowledge of programming languages commonly used in GIS, such as Python (especially with library ArcPy), R, or JavaScript (for web mapping applications), HTML/CSS (for ArcGISHub)Experience or understanding of how to interact with web APIs to download and retrieve data such as familiarity with making HTTP requests, handling JSON or XML responses, and using tools or libraries for API integration (such as Python's requests library).CuriosityDedication to collaboration and teamworkAbility to ask for helpApplication Materials:

Candidates who are invited to interview will be required to complete a mapping assignment before proceeding in the selection process.
