DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Director of Physician Communication and Peer Support, the Physician Communication Consultant is responsible for supporting the physician shadowing, coaching, facilitation and design of initiatives that are deemed necessary as a result of physician shadowing. The job responsibilities of the Physician Communication Consultant will fully support enhancing physician communication with patients, families and staff across Henry Ford Health System, physician shadowing and coaching, and enhancing the Physician Communication Curriculum.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership and Administration:
Facilitates the Physician Shadowing Process, including, identifying physician communication best practices during a patient interaction, developing
comprehensive individual Physician Shadow Reports, providing individual physician shadow debrief feedback, assisting with the design and co-facilitation of department Physician Shadow Debrief Meetings
Fully participates in the design, development, facilitation, coordination, review and assessment of interventions tailored to specific departments and individual physicians as a result of physician shadowing.
Provides individual coaching for physicians to assist them in improving their communication skills with patients, families and staff, using a certified coaching process.
Creates developmental plans for individual physicians.
Participates in best practice research associated with physician communication.
Designs/redesigns system-wide and department specific learning events that align with the core physician communication curriculum and content.
Designs and implements evaluation methodologies; analyses data, interprets individual and department-specific patient satisfaction data
Promotes the integration of patient satisfaction, leadership behaviors, and physician wellness and engagement elements in program development activities.
Represents Physician Communication and Peer Support programs through presentations and active participation in appropriate professional associations.
Participates in committees related to physician communication.
Helps develop and facilitate collaborative educational partners.
Sustainment:
Performs “spot check” physician shadows and coaches physicians post shadowing as needed.
Pulls and interprets individual and department-specific patient satisfaction data.
Supports compliance with accreditation requirements.
Responds to information requests.
Formulates plans; meets deadlines.
Planning:
Develops and implements initiatives that support strategic direction for Physician Communication and Peer Support (PCPS) programming to align and integrate PCPS initiatives and content within the System.
Identifies educational programming to improve the educational enterprise and enhance the learning environment/climate.
Customer Focus:
Establishes and maintains effective collaborative relationships with administrators/faculty/staff, residents/fellows and colleagues.
Incorporates perspectives and concerns of all stakeholders relative to the educational enterprise and learning environment in planning.
Personal Interaction:
Regular contact with senior staff, trainees, corporate departments (e.g. Care Experience) GME staff, and other employees. Provides frequent presentations and training programs for physicians and physician leaders.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelor's Degree in education, psychology or other related field required. Master's Degree highly preferred.
Five (5) years of experience in an educational or training and development setting required.
Five (5) years of experience in executive coaching required.
Demonstrated expertise in the areas of innovative instructional/program design, program facilitation, communications, wellness, cultural diversity, and evaluation preferred.
Experience in healthcare or wellness preferred.
