The Staff Specialist - Graphic Designer supports City Schools' communications and marketing strategy through compelling graphic design across digital and offline media. This position will design a wide variety of visual content in alignment with City Schools' brand standards including printed items, graphics to identify key initiatives and events, and standard templates and illustrations for recurring activities. Plans and illustrates concepts by designing rough layouts of art and copy regarding arrangement, size, type size and style, and related aesthetics. Coordinates with internal teams in the design concept phase through completion of a project.Creates a wide range of graphics and layouts for illustrations, initiatives, social media channels, web pages, wordmarks and logo, presentations, programming collateral, signage, internal communication, newsletters, and marketing materials.Updates brand style guide annually to reflect changes in the district's messaging.Disseminates information to the public and school division staff through excellence in graphic design and branding and social media asset management.Works independently and cooperatively on multiple projects, meeting deadlines and scheduling project implementation based on workload, which may include five or more simultaneous projects.Maintains and ensures quality control processes for graphic design. Review final productions for errors and ensure that final productions reflect client specifications.Helps manage, evaluates and track content inventories, organizing content and information architecture for the division's visual story-telling assets.Supports the Communications Team to manage, upload and refresh content on web, social media and other digital platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, websites, and mobile application.Collaborates with the Communications Team and videographers to produce visual media products and ensure assets are optimized for web and social media.Assists with editing photos and submitted images for use in communications programs.Maintains technical knowledge by attending design workshops; reviewing professional publications; and participating in professional societies.Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies and the professional standards.

Desired Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in graphic design, art, or similar discipline; master's degree preferred. Degree must be from an accredited institution.Minimum of three years of experience, working as a designer in the design/advertising/communications field in an agency and/or corporate environment required.Proven proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite with emphasis in InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat; must provide a portfolio.Be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Photography experience and proficiency with photo-editing software in the design/advertising/communications field is preferred.Ability to clearly communicate the reasoning behind design choices.Demonstrable design sense and strong knack for graphic design trends as well as a deep understanding of digital and social strategies.Knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of multimedia design and production.Knowledge of copyright and fair use state and federal laws and regulations to ensure that graphic design products meet legal standards.Skilled in design principles, typography, illustration, layout, and electronic media. Ability to work effectively under pressure, multi-task in a fast-paced environment, and meet tight deadlines.Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.Knowledge of K-12 education, particularly in an urban setting, is preferred.Experience in video editing/creation programs is preferred.
