Montana Tech is seeking four dedicated Instructional Designers to join our innovative team. These grant-funded positions will collaborate closely with disciplinary experts to convert existing content into top-quality online delivery through an iterative process of systematic review by all contributors, including an External Advisory Board (EAB).

The purpose of this project is to upskill traditional engineering degrees by expanding material accessibility, widening current dissemination, and broadening our customer base to include students from various engineering disciplines. The IDs will work very closely with subject matter experts, course facilitators, and teaching assistants to create engaging, effective, sustainable asynchronous courses that will meet the high standards of the grant provider. Close attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and excellent communication are all musts in these new positions.

Duties:Work with the assigned thematic team to design top-quality asynchronous courses for a target audience of professional-level students in one of four areas of engineering: metallurgical, geological, mining, and environmental.Assist other DPA-IDs with creating content according to their own area of design expertise, including (but not limited to), alignment and course mapping, copyright, RSI, accessibility, multi-media development, gamification, etc.Coordinate with the Director of the Center for Academic Innovation, the Subject Matter Experts, the facilitators, and the GAs through discussions, work-sharing, and course reviews to ensure that all course content is exactly what is wanted and is presented in accessible, logical, usable ways.Participate in course design reviews and revise courses as needed.Coordinate with the Director of the Center for Academic Innovation to stay on schedule and produce completed deliverables on time and ready to be taught from.

Required Qualifications:Education: BA or BS in instructional design or instructional technology OR portfolio of completed work.Experience teaching online in higher education.Experience with one of the major mainstream LMS platforms (Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard, D2L, etc.)Experience designing to meet the requirements of accreditation and regulatory compliance, including, but not limited to alignment and course mapping, intellectual property rights, Regular Substantial Interaction (RSI), and/or accessibility.Ability to work well with faculty who are highly skilled experts in their fields, including talking through the planning process of distance course design in order to create the most effective product.Must be able to meet deadlines and work on different parts of a project simultaneously.Be available for regular meetings with the faculty and any other relevant individuals (TAs, SMEs, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:Experience with Canvas LMS.Experience with distance learning in one of the four thematic areas of engineering: metallurgical, geological, mining, and environmental.Experience as an online student in higher ed, preferably in a STEM discipline.Ability to apply design techniques such as backwards design, gamification, SAMR, etc.Experience building engaging, effective content using authentic learning and assessment.Experience with Quality Matters or other, similar, quality assurance programs for distance learning.
