The Westwood Free Public Library’s mission is to connect citizens with the resources, programs, and people to support an informed, educated, literate, engaged, and skilled community.

ABOUT OUR LIBRARYThe Westwood Public Library serves a diverse population of more than 11,000 residents in Bergen County, New Jersey, with the majority of residents owning library cards. As a vibrant community center in a town known as “the Hub of the Pascack Valley,” we offer a range of resources and programs year-round, catering to the evolving educational, informational, and recreational needs of our community.

JOB SUMMARYUnder the supervision of the Board of Trustees, the Library Director is responsible for all library operations and collection management while developing and implementing its service programs. The Director performs a wide array of leadership responsibilities requiring independent knowledge and sound judgment. The Library Director has ultimate responsibility for hiring and supervising all employees, as well as volunteers, who work for the Library.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Master of Library Science Degree from an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited Library SchoolNew Jersey Professional Librarian’s Certificate or eligibility for acquiring oneProfessional Library experienceThree or more years in high-level supervisory and administrative positionsNew Jersey resident with a valid driver's licenseProficient in Google WorkspaceDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversee operation and maintenance of the libraryRecruit, supervise, and facilitate professional development of staffPrepare and implement annual budget and present it to the Mayor and Borough CouncilCreate programming, curate collections, and provide reference materialsDevelop strategic planning for the futureFoster cooperative relationships between schools, municipality, and other agencies within WestwoodParticipate in local, state, and national professional organizationsActively seek and apply for outside grants and other sources of fundingAbility to readjust the physical space of the library to accommodate programmingSKILLS
