Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will plan, develop, and implement communication strategies, campaigns, and programs to deliver waste reduction information, promote the utilization of Kent County Department of Public Works services, and build public awareness of and engagement with KCDPW and the community.

Responsibilities will include:

Representing the KCDPW to the media; developing and maintaining the department’s website; and developing, designing and coordinating the production and distribution of a variety of informational, marketing and promotional media.

Collecting, compiling and analyzing market, public opinion and needs assessment research.

Planning, developing and supervising the staging of public relations and other special events.

Facilitating materials management planning committee meetings and assisting with drafting a new materials management plan.

Working with other County Administration, Departments, Officials and Agencies on a limited basis to strategize communication messages and delivery.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations Environmental Education, Natural Resource Management, or related experience combined with four years of progressively responsible experience in the design, development and implementation of marketing, public relations and/or communications programs and activities.

Must possess a thorough working knowledge of the practices of marketing, public relations, journalism, and communications including the principles and practices of graphic design, and the relationship between print, broadcast, and digital media.

Must possess excellent public speaking skills and the ability to interact positively with the media, elected officials, community and civic leaders and the general public. Spanish or Swahili speaking is desirable in applicants.
