PPC’s music ministry provides key elements to our traditional worship service each Sunday morning with contributions from the adult and handbell choirs, soloists, and guest musicians. Additionally, PPC music has offered special programs of Handel’s Messiah and Only Love, A Christmas Cantata, as part of our effort to bring God’s great gift of music to the community at large. Our music ministry is focused on making music to the glory of God through choirs, handbells, and singing during services by all members of PPC. Music is a joyful and vital part of our worship and the life of our church family.
The Director of Music at Providence Presbyterian Church shall implement and maintain a comprehensive music ministry such that the congregation of Providence grows in the ability to worship and praise God through music and song and that appropriate opportunities exist for all who wish to participate.
This is a part-time salaried position (nominally 20 hours per week), with salary dependent upon experience. The position is open July 15 until filled.
Responsibilities:
Direct the Adult Choir and the Bell Choir
Coordinate children and youth music opportunities with the Children's Ministry Team
Identify new musical opportunities and provide occasions for congregational musicians and singers to share and exercise their talents and gifts
Recruit members for vocal and bell groups, soloists, and musicians for regular services or other musical programs
Work with pastoral staff to enhance worship through music
Plan music for worship and secure musicians as needed
Help select music and secure organist for weddings and funerals as needed
Work with the Music Committee to plan and coordinate budget requests and expenses
Advise and consult concerning special worship and music programs
Attend Music Committee meetings
Qualifications/Qualities:
A degree in music is preferred with experience in choral direction
Ability to lead various choirs, including handbells, in a church setting
Must be an enthusiastic person of faith who views music as an integral part of worship
Approachable, welcoming, and inclusive
Thorough and organized
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing, with persons of all ages
Ability to work collaboratively and positively with staff, members, and community partners
Be a self-starter, demonstrate initiative, and show a willingness to take on extra projects when needed
Be flexible in order to meet the challenges and changing needs of the church
Be supportive and function as a contributing member of the PPC team
