As a campus social hub, the SMSU assists in the retention and development of students while encouraging a deeper understanding and appreciation of cultural pluralism, gender equity, and ethnic diversity through a variety of cultural, social, educational, and recreational activities.Employment SummaryFull-Time, exempt position.Work ScheduleThis is a regular, full-time, salaried position. Willingness to work a flexible schedule as necessary in order to respond to emergency/urgent situations is required. This may include working extended hours, evenings, weekends, and some holidays.General PurposeThe Audio-Visual Specialist/Event Coordinator is responsible for managing all aspects of the Santos Manuel Student Union's audio-visual services and event operations, ensuring smooth coordination of events both on and off-campus. The role involves overseeing AV setups, supervising event configurations, troubleshooting equipment issues, and providing exceptional customer service.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesServes as a specialist in the areas of audio-visual and room configuration needs for in-house, on- and off-campus contacts.Maintain a high level of customer service by actively engaging with clients, addressing their needs promptly.Utilize critical thinking and quick decision-making skills to resolve issues on the spot during events.Oversees installations, upgrades, and maintenance of AV systems.Oversees meeting room and facility setups by meeting with the Event Services Manager and clients.Restores non-working AV equipment to working condition and provides routine support.Oversees inventory management by tracking, organizing, and maintaining accurate records of supplies and equipment.Critically analyze systems to ensure user-friendly functionality and develop clear instructions for end users.Assists with capital purchases and minor capital expenditures for meeting room furniture and equipment.Maintains all video walls, video displays, and projection systems.Sets up and tests new AV equipment and user devices.Maintains required records and documentation and liaises with outside vendors.Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations.Provides input related to SMSU Scheduling and Facilities Use Policies.Serves as an extension of the Associate Director of Operations during requirement gathering and other AV related duties.Serves on campus-wide committees as assigned.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesSupervises Audio Visual and Event Operations student assistants. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; and addressing complaints.QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential.Education and/or ExperienceMinimum of one year of experience managing teams, running live productions, and overseeing audio-visual installations.LanguageAbility to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.Mathematical SkillsAbility to perform simple mathematical computations.Reasoning AbilityAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.Computer SkillsAdvanced knowledge of MS Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.Certifications Licenses & RegistrationsFirst Aid and CPR/AED certification is required within the first month of employment.Physical Demands:
