The ASU Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts is seeking a creative and innovative Web Designer/Front End developer to design, update and maintain digital media, web pages and websites for the largest comprehensive design and arts college in America. The Web Design Specialist serves as a versatile designer for the ASU Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts communications and marketing department. This specialist actively engages in and leads conceptualization, development, project/process management and implementation of online/web/digital media projects, creative media for the Institute, its six schools (the schools of Art; Arts, Media and Engineering; Music, Dance and Theatre; The Design School; The Sidney Poitier New American Film School; ASU FIDM), the ASU Art Museum, and ASU FIDM Museum.

Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse (75%); required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work (10%)Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds (15%)Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflictsAbility to clearly communicate to perform essential functionsBackground Check Statement

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field AND one (1) year providing first level customer service and trouble-shooting support OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education form which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

Essential Duties

Utilize various web coding languages, graphic design software and design methods to build, implement and maintain a variety of web pages, websites, digital media, printed materials, environmental graphics and branding elements to support the mission, focus and brand of the ASU Herberger Institute.Develop storyboards, mockups, prototypes, and detailed design specifications to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas.Communicate design ideas and collaborate with web development to ensure implementation follows the design specifications.Redesign existing websites and pages using industry best practices for usability, cross-browser compatibility and user interface design.Provide input on how best to translate copy and graphics direction from other media to the website.Direct and prioritize development of features and functionality, communicating to both internal/external teams, improving transparency and radiating information and ensuring cohesive and comprehensive maintenance and user experience satisfaction.Participate in iterative development processes and brainstorming sessions to support web application effectiveness, accessibility and ideal user experience.Maintain competitive analysis of other websites and advises on opportunities for further enhancement and development.Use user data, analytics and business requirements to make strategic decisions to improve the website's content and user experience.Conduct user research to include appropriate testing and incorporate learnings.Participate in iterative development processes and brainstorming sessions to support web application effectiveness, accessibility and ideal user experience.Provide direction to internal and external web content managers as to modifications or changes in graphic design look and standards.Collaborate with web development to ensure implementation follows the design specifications.Collaborate with the team to research and assess new web features and techniques and make constructive and innovative suggestions for change.Find solutions to web challenges.Serve as a contact between the Communications and Marketing department and all academic disciplines or other departments that require a presence on the website.Meet with project constituents to develop project timelines and deadlines.Define project tasks, responsibilities and outcomes; documents activities and tracks progress.Maintain accurate records of work in progress for the department.Manage multiple projects and deadlines with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.Give accurate time estimates for work and adheres to timelines and deadlines.Maintain confidentiality.Work with IT departments to provide continuity of technical implementation for the website. Troubleshoots potential web page problems.Responsible for achieving uniformity of information and graphic standards per specified branding goals.In this role, you should be an analytical and creative designer who is able to grasp user needs and solve problems.Review content for accuracy and quality of information.Assume or coordinate other duties or projects as assigned or directed.
