Job Title: Correctional/Nurse Practitioner Job Specialty: Staff Augmentation Job Duration: 6 months (possibility for extension based on mutual agreement) Shift: Day shifts, 4 eight-hour shifts per week (no evenings, weekends, or holidays) Guaranteed Hours: Not specified Experience: At least one year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner in a primary care setting or hospital medicine License: Valid license as a Registered Nurse in Ohio; completion of a Nurse Practitioner program certified by the Ohio Board of Nursing for advanced practice with valid certificate of authority and certificate to prescribe Certifications: Healthcare-professional level BLS/CPR certification Must-Have: - Flexibility in start and end times- Ability to provide primary care services on-site to a male population in a correctional facility- Capability to be considered for permanent hire Job Description: - Create and implement patient care plans and perform advanced nursing duties within the boundaries of licensure - Monitor patient progress and intervene in chronic illness cases - Perform routine physical examinations to determine control or status of chronic conditions and diagnose new conditions - Evaluate and treat acute and chronically ill patients, prescribe medications, or administer treatments - Complete discharge planning and follow-up care for individuals with chronic care or medical issues - Perform minor surgery as training and competency allow - Evaluate the necessity for referral consultations within or outside the institutional or correctional setting - Order and review laboratory, x-ray, and other diagnostic tests - Inoculate or vaccinate patients against communicable diseases- Maintain medical records - Document medical information gathered during patient interviews according to agency guidelines - Document assessments, diagnostic impressions, treatment plans, and follow-up parameters - Collaborate monthly with the institutional Chief Medical Officer or agency equivalent for medical quality oversight- Provide clinical direction to registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, phlebotomists, and other caregivers Major Worker Characteristics: - Knowledge of skilled registered nursing procedures and advanced nurse practices- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and state and federal regulations, policies, and procedures related to nursing- Understanding of human relations, employee training and development, healthcare services and program management, counseling, and interviewing skills
