The OpportunityDESCRIPTION The role of the Packaging Designers is to create packaging that surprises and delights Amazon's customers.
Not sure what skills you will need for this opportunity Simply read the full description below to get a complete picture of candidate requirements.The primary role of the Packaging Designer is to develop and support the scale of fiber-based packaging designs that meet or exceed our customers’ expectations for the products that they buy yet works flawlessly through the supply chain delivering the lowest total cost and highest level of sustainability.The candidate will work directly with the program managers, automation/machinery development engineers, our customer experience teams, and experts in the field of fiber-based packaging. Co-located with our designers and scientists for materials, machinery, and automation design, this role will work to ensure that Amazon’s packaging is best in class through co-creation and optimization. As part of the Mechatronics and Sustainable Packaging team, this role is vital to ensuring future investments in automation are created with optimized packaging as a central and core tenet.Key job responsibilities
Develop, test, and refine new packaging designsCreate detailed packaging specificationsProduce reports on packaging performanceParticipate in meetings to ensure developments meet benchmarks for customer experience, supply chain, and sustainabilityTravel to engage with customers, supply chain, labs, and vendorsAbout the team Aligning mechatronics and packaging into one organization, (Mechatronics and Sustainable Packaging, MSP) enables Amazon to develop, deploy, and scale automated solutions across the Amazon Fulfillment Network, especially from Pick to SLAM for the Automated Robotics Sortable (ARS) network. This group works backwards from deep customer insights to deliver solutions that seamlessly integrate into brownfield and greenfield deployments with safety as a top priority. In addition, Sustainable Packaging solutions are a thread that impacts and connects all parts of the Amazon Stores supply chain and customer experience. They take ownership for the entire packaging experience including selling partner design, first/middle/last mile, and total customer experience. They eliminate waste and packaging wherever possible. Where Amazon added packaging is required, they are transitioning from single-use plastics to curbside recyclable paper-based materials.BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
BA in Packaging Science, Packaging Engineering or similar 4 year packaging or industrial design degree3+ years experience in paperboard/corrugated designProven experience in Artios CAD, Adobe, Solidworks and/or other design toolsDemonstrated understanding of paperboard materials (Kraft, CRB, FBB, Linear, Mediums)PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Proven track record of creative package designUnderstanding of packaging testing, materials, and processesKnowledge of sustainability, recycling, and regulationsIndustry association participationAmazon is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
