TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

The Technical Director will be an integral part of the production team and will manage a wide range of technical and production activities for a dynamic live events and immersive entertainment production company. This position is based in Las Vegas, NV and will be onsite, hybrid and/or remote as business dictates.

Reporting to the General Management team, the ideal candidate will be extremely organized, self-motivated, and tenacious in dealing with a large quantity of time critical requests, have a mix of production and technical experience, with special consideration to applicants with relevant entertainment/media industry and live event/show production experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Collaborate with producers, directors, and other key stakeholders to understand the technical requirements of the live and immersive experience.

Analyze the feasibility of concepts, ensuring that the technical parameters are well defined, and the establishment of issues reflects the established parameters for all technical elements.

Develop and implement technical plans, including equipment design, logistics, installation, control technology and final test and adjust in preparation for production phase.

Create complete technical specification packages based on designer’s works, including scope and statements of work documents, specification and cutsheet packages creation of supplementary drawing packages by others, author elements lists, and complete bid spreadsheet for all production elements (scenic, lighting, SFX, rigging, audio, projection, show control, etc.).

In collaboration with designers and production manage and document a ROM and final bid process that provides detailed information for evaluation.

Participate in all bid-related communication, documentation, RFI/RFP processes, meetings, receiving and review processes, from initiation through to award.

Recruit, hire and supervise technical team members for the production and operating phases of the project.

Prepare a detailed production schedule based on collaborative input and direction from project leadership, partners, and stakeholders.

In collaboration with production, manage production budgets for the creation phase.

Develop, implement, and manage a budget for the technical department operations phase.

Collaborate in the ongoing VE process to provide solutions to technical challenges and ensure compliance with production budget directives.

Interface online and in person with architects, engineers, production and design teams, vendors, hotel partners and services, consultants, as needed, to support and document ongoing activities and a fast-paced production and construction schedule.

Establish, maintain and update operational procedures, trainings and standards for the technical department. Ensure technical department heads have knowledge of and are in compliance with industry best practices for safety, documentation, maintenance, training and inspection practices.

Oversee the daily operations of the technical teams as well as handle any site-related issues that may arise.

Oversee the maintenance programs and documentation and employ regular testing of all technical equipment to ensure optimal performance and prevent impact to show and immersive operations.

Manage all production documentation, dissemination, archival and filing.

All other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience/TrainingBachelor’s degree; 5-7 years of proven technical experience with live events/shows, with at least 3 years in a management role; must possess excellent planning, management and problem-solving capabilities.

Thorough knowledge of theatrical technologies.

Solid working knowledge of Microsoft applications; Additional knowledge of AutoCAD is beneficial.

Proven success and demonstrated ability in project management.

30-hour OSHA course required if not already holding proof of valid completion.

Additional Duties/Job SkillsThe position will work non-traditional hours operating in a dynamic, fast paced environment and will be expected to manage multiple projects simultaneously while demonstrating judgement on prioritization. Requires an energetic, detail-oriented self-starter and thoughtful manager who can work as a member of a team to solve problems. In addition, the ideal candidate possesses the following skills and is able to work in a drug-free environment and pass a chemical dependency drug test as required.

Thorough understanding of the implementation and operation of sound, lighting, projection, scenic, special effects systems, show control systems and other production equipment.

Excellent computer and technical skills.

Active listening, communication, and teamwork skills.

Excellent time management and organizational skills.

Experience with construction projects and equipment installation.

Prior entertainment production experience a must.

Ability to physically stand, walk, and climb stairs on a consistent basis.

This position could be exposed to loud noises, and frequent phone conversations, and requires average to above average visual acuity and hearing.

Most of this job will be performed indoors in a climate-controlled environment.
