About your role

We are looking for a

Senior Structural Design Engineer

to join our project team delivering the world-class Oyu Tolgoi underground mine in Mongolia. This is a key role within the Owner’s team with the responsibility for the safe and timely delivery of the cave Production Infrastructure.

The

Senior Structural Design Engineer

is accountable for providing technical expertise to the EL/HL construction project team to support the development of engineering detailed design.

Working within the Extraction Level/Haulage Level Construction projects team (mining and construction disciplines) you will:

Ensure compliance to the OT HSE and Quality Management Plans

Show outstanding leadership and commitment to HSE and Quality

Liaise with the project controls personnel to provide accurate updates of progress

Review and manage performance of external engineering providers

Provide continuous guidance to engineering team members.

Develop, oversee, review, and deliver structural engineering designs, 3D models, drawings, data sheets, project related specifications and other design documentation as required and in accordance with Mongolian, ISO, ACI, AISC, ASME and OT Site Standards

Plan and deliver engineering design of structural steelwork, reinforced concrete structures and foundations for extraction level and haulage level infrastructure including; cave draw points, ore handling tipples, ore grizzlies, ROM ore bins, truck loading stations, mobile drill workshops, overhead crane runways, underground concrete roadways, underground dewatering dams for the near term and future stages of the Oyu Tolgoi underground mine.

Produce engineering Basis of Design, engineering structural calculations, structural analysis, and preliminary and detailed design drawings and documentation.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have the following:

Degree qualified structural engineer with at least 5-10 years of experience

At least 5 years of experience in the design and execution of mining and/or industrial construction projects with delivery of engineering for structural steelwork, reinforced concrete structures and foundations.

A detailed understanding of engineering design deliverables including structural drawings, reinforced concrete drawings, datasheets, specifications, MTOs, structural analysis and calculations, scope of works for packages and construction.

Outstanding commitment to HSE and Quality

A demonstrated ability to work as part of an integrated delivery team.

An ability to work autonomously within a highly complex project delivery environment

Experience working in developing countries with exposure in mentoring and facilitating skills transfer to national engineers

It will also be beneficial if you have:

Underground mine ore handling and infrastructure design experience

Experienced in dealing with packages related to the supply of structural steelwork

Where you’ll be working

Oyu Tolgoi is an operating Copper / Gold open pit mine with a brownfields underground mining project. The site is located in the Gobi Desert region of Mongolia. The reserves case for the underground project is in the order of 0.5 billion tonnes of ore to be mined from the 95,000 tonnes per day Hugo North Lift 1 (HNL1) panel cave mine with a 20-year operations life. There is also the potential for 3 further block cave districts to increase mine life beyond 100 years.
