Making sure you fit the guidelines as an applicant for this role is essential, please read the below carefully.Job SummaryThe Instructional Designer will work within RIT’s Center for Teaching and Learning with faculty and instructional staff to design and support existing and future online, blended, and fully in-person undergraduate and graduate courses. The Instructional Designer will support design that is accessible, engaging, innovative and compliant with campus policies. The instructional designer role also includes consulting with faculty and instructional staff on pedagogical best practices and contributing to the design and delivery of professional development opportunities. The successful candidate will promote excellence in teaching and student experience through well-designed courses and data-informed improvements. The instructional designer will engage with faculty, teaching assistants, staff, and colleagues across campus.Job ResponsibilitiesProvide support and guidance to faculty through all stages of the course lifecycle, from design and implementation through evaluation, and across all delivery modes (in-person, blended/hybrid, and fully online). Assist faculty in designing engaging learning activities and effective assessments.Design, develop, and deliver professional development opportunities and other programming for the instructional community focused on the integration of evidence-based teaching practices across all curriculum.Provide individual and group faculty consultations related to effective course design principles and teaching practices. When requested, conduct course observations in order to identify instructional opportunities and analyze areas for improvement.Create reference materials (e.g. help documents, how-to guides, videos, courses/course components, webpages) that prepare faculty, staff, and students to adopt best practices for teaching and learning and effective use of academic technologies.Collaborate with colleagues across the university to provide guidance on online learning, accessibility, active learning, and related instructional topics.Conduct ongoing research into emerging models of teaching and learning, including the application of academic technology to learning.Other duties as assigned.Required QualificationsMaster's degree in Education, Instructional Design, or a related field.Understanding of adult learning theory and/or experience leading faculty development initiatives.Three or more years’ experience in instructional design, development, and use of academic technology.Three or more years’ experience providing direct service and/or consulting to others.At least two years experience teaching in higher education, including experience developing and delivering courses in an online format.At least two years experience managing projects and events.At least one year experience facilitating learning events.Intermediate knowledge of learning management systems (e.g., Brightspace).Solid understanding of best practices in all instructional delivery models and the related technology tools.Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects to completion.Preferred QualificationsPHD preferred.Advanced working knowledge of educational technologies and digital tools for teaching.Experience in project management or content production cycles.Knowledge of accessibility considerations in all course delivery modes, including online learning.Knowledge of Generative AI and its impact on teaching and learning.Well-developed faculty service skills and proven ability to develop and sustain productive faculty relationships.Experience in development, delivery and evaluation of workshops and individual faculty consultation.Required Minimum Education LevelMS, MAWork LocationHenrietta Campus — 100%ShiftDayWage Band118AFLSA CategoryExemptEmployment CategoryFulltimeRequired Application DocumentsCover Letter, Curriculum Vitae or Resume, List of ReferencesDepartment/College DescriptionThis position is on the Learning Design and Technology team in the Center for Teaching and Learning in Academic Affairs.
