University Advancement is seeking a Director of Marketing & Communications to lead a dynamic team of communications professionals and to work closely with and advise the Chancellor and Cabinet on stakeholder engagement. This position will collaborate across campuses and Southcentral communities to execute internal and external Institutional communications that promote the University’s brand and its values of student success, excellence, access and inclusion.

As a leader in the Office of Advancement, you will bring your deep experience in executing strategic marketing and communications initiatives to our team. The Director of UMAC will lead institutional marketing and communications efforts, including oversight of recruitment marketing and institutional brand integrity. You will help to coordinate a unified network of communicators, driving high-functioning collaboration and results. The Director of UMAC will serve as UAA’s Chief Public Information Officer (PIO) and member of UAA’s Incident Management Team (IMT), leading crisis communication and issues management and providing counsel to the Chancellor, Executive Director of University Advancement and other members of university leadership.

To thrive in this role, the Director of University Marketing and Communications will have a strong business acumen and mental agility to ramp quickly across UAA’s dynamic and diverse university structure and programs. The Director of UMAC must have strong analytical/problem solving skills, demonstrated success in driving complex strategies and projects, outstanding cross group organizational skills, exceptional communication skills (verbal and written) and proven project management skills. The Director of UMAC must be able to apply experience and knowledge of best practices in crisis communications and have the ability to work across multiple communication channels.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree required in Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Communications or relevant discipline and a minimum of 5 years of increasingly responsible positions or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Position Details:

This position is located at the University of Alaska campus in Anchorage. This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 83, based on education and experience.
