These specifications include detail drawings, 3D CAD data, Bills of Materials, and Engineering Standards. This associate has the ability to creatively solve design problems and manage engineering changes through the Hillman system.Essential Job FunctionsWorks with others on a multifunctional team to define design requirements, sometimes facilitating the process.Utilizes best practices of 3D product design, 2D drawing/detailing (including GD&T where appropriate), and BOM creation; may coach others of the same.Creates 3D designs and fully specified engineering components and assembly drawings of moderate complexity components, assemblies, and systems independently based on form/fit/function requirements and production processes.Resolves mechanical, fabrication, and/or assembly problems. Designs prototypes and/or test equipment as required/directed.Independently identifies product structure needs and generates bills of material (BOM) required for designs.Generates/processes engineering change orders (CO's). Establishes prioritization based on project/manufacturing needs.Participates in, and occasionally coordinates, the hands-on assembly or prototyping of engineering concepts, proof-of-design builds, and possibly test equipment.Education & Experience1-3 years of experienceSolid mechanical design experience; able to deliver complete mechanical product specifications with light supervisory technical input.Possesses working knowledge of drawing detailing and GD&T practices, able to detail component drawings with no assistance.Capable of performing basic tolerance stack-up analysis assessing accumulated dimension/tolerance variation across simple components or assemblies.Working experience with stage-gate development processes and key design tasks.Experience handling moderately complex issues and problems, and referring more complex issues to higher-level staff.Possesses intermediate working knowledge of engineering design principles related to the position. Has applied design principles in practice.Possesses leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring skills.Strong team player skills; able to work well with others and support internal/external customer needsCompetencies – Knowledge, Skills and Abilities>2000 hours experience using Solidworks or other similar 3D CAD packagesWith adequate initial Engineering input, and product definitions, capable of designing the following with minimal support:

complex machined partsplastic injection molded partszinc and aluminum alloy die castingssheet metal stampingsproducts/assemblies for Designed for Manufacturability

Intermediate understanding of basic part dimensional inspection methods; able to design go/no-go gaging with some assistance.Demonstrated knowledge of tolerancing, GD&T, and basic tolerance stack-ups
