Library Systems Technologist (Librarian II, III, or IV) (Hybrid) The Library (https://library.gatech.edu/) at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia invites applications for a Systems Librarian to facilitate innovative and collaborative efforts to support the Georgia Tech Library’s collection management, access, and discovery platforms. Partnering with library stakeholders and technologists, the Systems Librarian will serve as an administrator and main technical lead for the Library’s collection management and discovery systems, primarily Ex Libris’ Alma/Primo. Working both independently and collaboratively, lead projects and initiatives to improve workflows, implement integrations, assess Library tools, and find creative solutions to improve upon the management and discovery of library resources. This role has responsibility for maintaining optimal system performance for users and the development of services based on the functionality and capabilities of Alma and Primo. The Systems Librarian is expected to serve on internal and external committees and collaborate with partners across the state. This position will report to the Associate Dean for Research and Scholarly Access and work in close collaboration with Library Information Technology. As a member of the University System of Georgia, the GT Library is committed to supporting the USG migration to FOLIO in 2025. This position will work in close collaboration with colleagues across the USG in support of the migration. Worksite location is Atlanta, GA and hybrid.This is a 12-month faculty position with an effort distribution of 80% excellence in assigned duties, 10% scholarship, and 10% professional service to the library profession. Up to two (2) years credit for previous professional experience may be given at the time of employment, in which case such credit will be stated in the offer letter. This is a hybrid position, regular onsite time along with some teleworking hours is supported.Responsibilities:Serve as the technical lead for the Library’s ILS and Discovery systems (Alma/Primo) to include configurations, troubleshooting, training, analytics, and documentation.Manage incoming data feeds for acquisitions, complex bibliographic, holdings and item data, and patron data.Test new functionality and system upgrades prior to implementation and evaluate current workflows to recommend modifications that increase efficiency.In collaboration with Library stakeholders and technologists, lead integration and enhancement implementations utilizing the Library’s project management process.Develop, document, train, and implement on Alma/Primo management best practices, policies, and procedures.Collaborate with Library stakeholders and technologists regarding system capabilities and functionality, forwarding requests for system modifications and/or enhancements to the vendor and escalate and communicate issues as appropriate.Collaborate with colleagues at the local, state, and national level.Serve as co-chair of the Library’s Alma/Primo Committee.Collaborate with 3rd party vendors supporting our ILS & Discovery solution(s).Other related duties as assigned.Required QualificationsThis position vacancy will be filled at the rank of Librarian II, Librarian III, or Librarian IV or Research Technologist II, Research Technologist Senior or Research Technologist Principle. A strong record of scholarship and service demonstrating the highest standards of professional contributions to the librarian profession and are recognized widely by peers. 15 years of professional experience.Preferred QualificationsMaster’s degree in Library and Information Science or Computer Science.Demonstrated knowledge of integrated library systems.Experience with the Ex Libris Alma and Primo library services platform.Experience with library-related systems technologies, including working with vendor support for third-party systems.Working knowledge of current trends, practices, and procedures related to access, discovery, and technical services operations.Experience with a system migration.Familiarity with library metadata standards.Understanding of and experience with library technology standards and current access services protocols to access and retrieve online content (e.g. Z39.50, OpenURL, NCIP, DOI, OAI, etc.).Working knowledge of server-side scripting and programming languages such as PHP, Python or like programs/languages.Working knowledge of database systems such as MySQL and knowledge and use of Structured Query Language (SQL).Familiarity with proxy authentication such as Open Athens.Knowledge of authentication processes using Shibboleth and SAML.Demonstrated experience with using APIs and web services for integration and data retrieval.Solid record of working collaboratively as well as independently.Demonstrated experience with project management, including planning, communication, and assessment.Strong commitment to innovative, user-centered service and learning.Excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, written and oral communications skills.Certification as an Alma/Primo Administrator.Required Documents to AttachApplicants must submit a letter of interest, CV, and the names and contact information for at least three references.
