Duties and Responsibilities

(Note: * denotes Essential Functions)

* * Coordinate MICR 140L and MICR 351L, or other courses as necessary, with assigned IORs and Teaching Assistants. Train and supervise the teaching assistants for these courses, and be available for their consultation. This includes the scheduling of labs as well as the preparation of materials needed.* * With lead microbiology specialist, oversee the preparation of materials needed for microbiology labs by technical personnel.* * With lead microbiology specialist, maintain inventory of chemicals and supplies for all microbiology labs.* * Supervise the collection and proper disposal of used and contaminated materials from the teaching labs by teaching assistants and technical personnel.* * Monitor biosafety and chemical safety compliance with university standards for work with microorganisms.* * Maintain supplies for laboratory classrooms and restock as necessary.* * Advise lead microbiology specialist of items that need to be ordered.* * Maintain culture collections of microorganisms necessary for the assigned laboratory courses along with an up-to-date record of stocks used in teaching labs.* Oversee the care and maintenance of equipment in teaching labs and prep room. Advise lead microbiology specialist of any needed repairs.* Maintain orderliness in teaching labs.* Maintain up-to-date required safety and other university required trainings.* Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

* Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Microbiology or related field and 0 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for microbiology experiments; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.* Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of microbiology demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology.* Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with microbiology or related life science.* Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the area of microbiology (i.e., perform root cause analysis).* Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.* Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.* Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer, apply word processing software, and spreadsheet software.

Desirable Qualifications

* Ability to perform minor repairs of laboratory equipment.
