El Puente seeks a Communications Manager (CM) to develop and coordinate El Puente’s internal and external communications. The Communications Manager will work closely with the Executive Director, Deputy Director of Programs, and Development Director to gather, synthesize, and disseminate the El Puente story. This person will be responsible for adapting El Puente’s messaging to maximize its impact on internal and external audiences, including staff, El Puente members, organizational partners, press, funders, and donors. The Communications Manager will support the marketing of El Puente programs and fundraising efforts. They will be responsible for cohesive messaging and branding across communications and media platforms. Finally, the Communications Manager will be expected to serve as a liaison with press outlets and will have the opportunity to get significant on-the-record experience on behalf of El Puente with local and national media. The CM will join the Development and Communications team, reporting to the Executive Director. The role offers an opportunity for a highly motivated individual to respond to a critical need at an inflection point in El Puente’s history while imagining new, creative communications tools and systems for the organization.Who we are:Founded in 1982, El Puente is a youth-centered organization that uses the arts and education to advance racial and environmental justice. Its mission is to inspire and nurture leadership for peace and justice, working as a human rights institution in NYC and Puerto Rico with national and international impact. El Puente creates community-led movements of self-determination through a holistic leadership and membership program model, as a high-impact youth and community development organization.El Puente integrates its activities and community campaigns within its six Youth Leadership Centers, and its nationally recognized public high school, the El Puente Academy for Peace and Justice. Organizing in North Brooklyn, Puerto Rico, and beyond, El Puente remains at the forefront of community & youth development, and as such, initiates/impacts social policy locally and nationally.As a staff member of El Puente, the Communications Manager is expected to uphold and work within the mission, philosophy, and principles of the organization.Job Responsibilities include the following:Develop and implement an El Puente communications strategy, including communications tailored to staff, members, partners, press, funders, and donors.Produce and manage cohesive and consistent content across a range of tools and platforms to implement this strategy, including website, Mailchimp email newsletters, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, print and event materials, and more.Ensure all content centers El Puente’s membership and community, vision for racial and social justice, and goals for self-determination.Develop a system for documenting past, present, and future project and program activities, outcomes, and impact.Keep apprised of all El Puente events, actions, panels, and programs and tailor relevant communications regarding internal and external audiences.Understand and articulate El Puente’s adaptive messaging, key priorities, and challenges as they evolve.Produce and contribute to high-quality, clear, and compelling marketing and fundraising materials that support El Puente’s core messaging.Monitor media trends, innovate content strategies, and track and analyze engagement across platforms.Maintain a list of press and media contacts, draft press releases, and coordinate press outreach and follow-up for local events and newsManage the CRM of organizational contacts to support targeted communications and fundraising.Maintain a proactive communications strategy while responding to communications needs and requests as they arise.Qualifications and Experience:The Communications Manager does not require a minimum number of years of experience but should demonstrate: alignment with El Puente’s vision for self-determination and social justice; capacity for adaptive storytelling across multiple digital and print media platforms; excellent written and verbal communications skills; and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Experience with the press and visual communications (arts, graphic design, video) are a plus. Experience with Latinx and low-income communities of color is preferred. English-Spanish bilingual fluency is required.COVID-19 considerations:All new hires must submit proof of vaccination.Location:This is a full-time position based in Brooklyn, NY.Schedule:Generally Monday through Friday. Work days and hours may shift depending on scheduling needs; the typical schedule will be 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.Salary and Benefits:$61,800 annual salary.
