Job Description:

Alice L. Walton School of Medicine (AWSOM) is seeking experienced, motivated, and dedicated leaders and educators to participate in the design and delivery of an innovative four-year medical school curriculum that engages medical students in active and novel learning.

About The Position:

Under the direction of the Senior Director of Library and Information Services, the Information Services Specialist provides technical support and assistance in performing library duties in one or more library specializations, including access services, outreach, and technical services. The position will assist the director with library acquisitions, assisting with the classification and organization of materials, and processing interlibrary loan requests for medical materials.

Major Responsibilities/Essential Functions Specific to the Position:

Processing coordinator for new electronic materials, updating eBook lists, and ensuring links and systems are current. Serve as purchasing assistant, maintaining vendor information, processing purchase orders, pulling requested book titles, and working with library vendors for routine supply orders. Handle inter-library loan needs including processing, receiving, and redirecting materials to the right patron. Serve as a point of contract with DocLine. Follow library procedures, opening and closing the service desk as needed, coordinating front desk operations. May assist higher level staff and librarians with basic information services; may staff public service points, providing customer service and assistance. Provide basic guidance and assistance to patrons regarding general and specific information about the library and library resources. Perform and/or oversee routine tasks, utilizing electronic databases and/or integrated library systems. Provide troubleshooting and support for library access needs. Coordinate library outreach working with the library director, coordinating with other offices on collaborative community enrichment. Resolve routine operational problems and provide first-level troubleshooting for relevant library systems and/or technology including with library guides and patron needs. Carry out and follow policies and procedures including copyright, FERPA, and resource licensing. Assist with report creation, including data collection. Perform regular audits of the information and inventory on file. Support collection maintenance activities and projects as appropriate, including inventory, data collection, displays, and signage. Ensure compliance with established procedures for specific activities within a library unit. Proactively stay up to date on library related techniques and operations, especially for medical libraries. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Additional Points:

AWSOM Library is focused on providing services and support to the greater campus community with a "patron first" mentality. The position may require early evening and weekend hours during high points in the campus calendar.

Minimal physical demands on a daily basis. Requires frequent handling of books and other library materials and pushing loaded book trucks. On an irregular basis, position may involve walking, pushing a loaded hand truck, shelving materials, moving materials on and off shelves.

Minimum Required Education and Work Experience

Associates degree, some additional college coursework completed; direct library experience can compensate for college coursework. 2-3 years of work in an office setting, focused on providing technical and operational support. Demonstrated outstanding organizational and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work independently as well as in a group. Preferred Education and Work Experience

Bachelor's degree with a focus in information, education, or health science related fields. Experience in an academic, medical, or health science information related operation. Broad understanding of library services, higher education operations, and information-based support services. Familiarity with medical databases and navigating medical information resources, medical terminology a plus.
