Overview
Under the supervision and direction of the electric design leadership team, the Assistant Designer develops a set of fundamental skills essential for electric distribution design. They will build on their existing strengths in communication, organization, and creativity in conjunction with learning utility standards to prepare construction drawings and other documents to design portions of projects as assigned. Designers are part of project teams working on electric projects such as power line undergrounding and overhead system hardening to prevent fire in high fire threat districts and other distribution line projects. With guidance from their lead, Designers carry a full workload of multiple project assignments and are expected to prioritize work tasks to achieve submittals on time and on budget. Confer with other staff members to resolve problems, achieve milestones, and create construction documents
Adhere to complex project work flowsPerform engineering calculations and complete other supplemental design documentsPrepare deliverables in a professional and organized mannerBalance a full project workload with aggressive deadlines and fixed budgetsManage and maintain design records and filesGain familiarity with construction standards in order to best meet client and NV5's expectationsPrepare drawings of the projects designed accurately and in conformance with the applicablestandards and regulations, and review all work for completeness before submitting for engineering reviewProfessionally represent NV5 in internal and external client meetingsPerform field walks, document existing conditions, and/or recommend design solutionsMinimal travel to client sites as needed (expected to be no more than 30% of time)Build a working knowledge of electric/gas utility safe work practices and as appropriate fordistribution roles, demonstrate knowledge by working in and around underground electricalvaults with a utility-authorized Qualified WorkerWork under the direction of the design management team with the expectation of progressing toward Designer II and aboveQualifications
0-2 years of experience in relevant utility design; applicants with more experience will be considered for Designer II or aboveBachelor's Degree from accredited universityPositive attitude, able to work collaboratively with othersStrong written/verbal communication and organizational skillsAbility to prioritize and complete assignments within tight deadlines and budgetsProficient using MS Office Suite and other relevant softwareDemonstrate a basic knowledge of relevant industry standards for design and constructionValid driver's licenseBe physically able to access utility equipment sites, some of them remoteBe willing to work in high-vehicle-traffic and construction areas as needed, in various locationsThe pay range for this California position is $25.00- $33.00 per hour; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. This information is provided per California Senate Bill 1162. Base pay information is based on market location.
