About the Role
MI is seeking an entrepreneurial and experienced marketing leader to shape and elevate the Institute’s brand and expand its influence, particularly across digital channels. Working closely with MI’s President, this is a senior, high-impact position offering significant autonomy to define and execute the Institute’s marketing strategy.
Responsibilities
Lead the development and implementation of marketing strategies that grow MI’s audience and strengthen its influence across media platforms.
Oversee multimedia production, marketing, and design teams, ensuring alignment with broader organizational goals.
Develop and embrace a data-driven approach to marketing, incorporating audience insights, ROI metrics, and segmentation strategies to maximize engagement.
Partner with external marketing and creative agencies to amplify MI’s reach.
Work closely with MI’s communications and development teams to address all levels of the marketing funnel, from audience building to lead nurturing to donor engagement, with the goal of driving enthusiasm and support for the Institute’s work.
Collaborate with MI scholars to capitalize on emerging opportunities in digital media, enabling them to become active participants in the creator economy.
Manage MI’s marketing budget and optimize strategies for paid and earned media.
Stay ahead of trends in digital media and content consumption—especially in the public policy arena—ensuring MI remains relevant and competitive.
Qualifications
Strong alignment with MI’s priorities and enthusiasm for advancing its mission.
Prior marketing experience, preferably at an ideas-focused organization (e.g., media/publishing, think tank/advocacy, political campaigns/government).
A creative, entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to shape the direction of MI’s brand and lead a high-performing team.
Demonstrated success in data-driven marketing and analytics (MBA preferred).
Excellent communication skills with a keen eye for design.
A collaborative leader who can foster creativity while managing multiple teams and projects.
Deep familiarity with the political, media, and professional landscapes relevant to MI’s work.
Based in New York City or, at minimum, able and willing to work 2-3 days per week in the Manhattan office.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary range: $175,000-$225,000/year, based on experience and skills.
