POSITION SUMMARY
The Reading Instructional Support Content Lead (RISCL) facilitates the implementation of Georgia's Early Literacy Act by assisting schools with various requirements of the law. The RISCL performs various tasks to support the coordination of the successful implementation of the K-5 Reading Curriculum and associated programs. The RISCL supports schools in implementing instructional reading/learning interventions and strategies for classrooms. The RISCL provides guidance and training for instructional coaches, teachers, and other staff on the implementation of interventions, intervention plans, and other strategies to be used for the improvement of reading. The RISCL assists the Elementary Academic Team in evaluating the effectiveness of instructional programs and developing strategies for improvement. This position reports to the Executive Director of Elementary Academics.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists with the development and implementation of curriculum support documents. Demonstrates, models, and coaches various reading/learning strategies for classrooms. Evaluates literacy needs within the school and collaborates with teachers and administrators to interpret, and use assessment data to improve instruction, and problem solve. Ensures district-level personnel, teachers, and principals are familiar with any intervention programs. Works collaboratively with administrators, teachers, and support staff to implement interventions to support instruction including instructional plans and assessments. Monitors and provides feedback to teachers on instruction related to literacy development and content area knowledge.
Serves as a facilitator for district-based professional learning for the District academic program. Supports various District-wide professional development opportunities.
Assists with analyzing data and identifying effective instructional practices to support teachers. Conducts observations of teachers for a specific academic program and provides feedback. Conducts informational and professional learning sessions at school sites as needed. Provides support to teachers in their classrooms through coaching, modeling, and mentoring.
Participates in regularly scheduled District and regional meetings. Communicates effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.
KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS
Master's degree required.
Minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience in content area associated with area of responsibility required.
Makes decisions and recommendations that affect the assigned division, but at times impacts others outside of the assigned division.
GaPSC certification at Level 5 or higher in related field required. Reading endorsement required or proof of enrollment in endorsement course must be submitted with application. Coaching endorsement preferred.
High level of judgment: supervisor will review established broad objectives and approve executive-level decisions.
Requires regular, frequent contact with internal personnel of influence and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of moderate importance. Excellent interpersonal skills are required for interacting and working with various levels of individuals.
Requires frequent contact with external personnel of influence and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of moderate importance. Excellent interpersonal and networking skills are required for interacting and working with various levels of individuals.
Requires excellent written and verbal skills.
Applies technology concepts to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the District; must be proficient with computers.
Responsibility for the Welfare of Others: Constantly (Daily)
Requires frequent travel to off-site training locations and school site visits.
Light duty - On most occasions sitting at a desk or table; intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping.
Light lifting or carrying; twenty (20) lbs. or less; may require occasional lifting of twenty (20) lbs. or more as related to work.
NOTE: This is a grade 28, 225-day position that pays for experience up to a Step 8.
