JOB SUMMARY: The Dougherty County School System is seeking a secondary science coordinator to join our roster of experienced, motivated, and effective teaching professionals. The Secondary Science Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the science curriculum, instruction, and assessment for students in grades 6th through 12th. This role involves collaborating with teachers, administrators, and stakeholders to ensure the delivery of high-quality science education that meets state standards and prepares students for academic success and future careers in science-related fields.

JOB SUMMARY: The Dougherty County School System is seeking a secondary science coordinator to join our roster of experienced, motivated, and effective teaching professionals. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in related fields required; Specialist or doctorate degree in related field preferred;
- Valid Georgia Teacher certification or Charter Waiver Eligible;
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and the Board may find appropriate;
- System level 6th-12th experience preferred;
- Five years of successful teaching experience with two years in an instructional leadership role;
- Instructional and leadership experience in the area of science and local administrative experience preferred;
- Experience, familiarity and application knowledge of TKES, LKES, CCRPI, College and Career Standards, SLDS desired.
- Ability to develop, lead, and supervise grades 6th-12th science curriculum and instructional program to achieve the district's mission, vision, and goals;
- Ability to plan a comprehensive and integrated professional development program for science which supports the direction of the district;
- Ability to coordinate science programs with other curricular and instructional programs;
- Ability to lead others in the pursuit of the district's mission, vision and goals as related to curriculum and instruction;
- Effective teamwork and collaborative skills for coordination of the science program with other curricular and instructional programs;
- Proficiency in technology applications for effective and efficient communication and distribution of curriculum and instruction resources;
- Ability to project and generate positive attitudes;
- Ability to work successfully with colleagues and community partnerships;
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate;
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of the science curriculum for grades 6 through 12, ensuring alignment with state standards and best practices;
- Provide guidance and support to science teachers in delivering engaging and rigorous instruction that promotes inquiry-based learning and scientific literacy;
- Coordinate professional development opportunities for educators to enhance their content knowledge, pedagogical skills, and use of instructional technology;
- Collaborate with school leaders, department heads, and curriculum coordinators to integrate technology, STEM initiatives, and interdisciplinary approaches into the science curriculum;
- Collaborate with the CTAE department to implement and integrate robotics and computer science curricula;
- Collaborate with the Instructional Innovation department to implement and integrate artificial intelligence and leading learning technologies into the science curriculum;
- Collaborates and plans with designated support personnel to plan, deliver professional learning, and model effective science/technology integration into daily instruction;
- Manage resources and budgets allocated for science education, including procurement of materials, equipment, and technology enhancements;
- Analyze student performance data to assess the effectiveness of curriculum and instructional strategies and inform continuous improvement efforts;
- Foster partnerships with parents, community organizations, and industry professionals to enrich students' learning experiences and expand access to real-world science opportunities;
- Stay abreast of current science/STEM curriculum trends through collaboration with state science professionals (GSSA,GSTA);
- Stay informed about, communicate, and support integration of current events related to scientific phenomena (e.g. eclipses, Earth day, severe weather, etc).
