BROAD STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

To provide structure and innovative instruction to students within the learning environment in order to meet all students' needs. The teacher will be responsible for developing in each student an interest in and the ability for creative expression in visual terms, using skills and techniques of artistic expression consistent with school guidelines; to develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations; to discover and develop talents of students in the field of art. To work collaboratively with all members of the school and program to provide specially designed instruction in the areas determined by students' Individualized Education Programs (IEP).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Participate in the development and promotion of the special education philosophy of service and delivery.
  2. Regular, reliable and punctual attendance is an essential function of the job.
  3. Develop individual instructional objectives for students based on assessment, Extended and/or Grade Level Content Expectations and regularly update these objectives based on students' skill acquisition.
  4. Cooperate in planning curriculum and instructional programs with other instructional and support personnel to encourage integrated team services for the students.
  5. Instructs pupils in art, such as painting, sketching, designing, and sculpturing.
  6. Demonstrates method and procedure to pupils.
  7. Demonstrate and assist students to use different techniques and media to develop art works aligned to their artistic abilities
  8. Encourage students to express their own personalities and thoughts through the creative process.
  9. Inform students about cultural and historical influences on art.
  10. Monitoring inventory and sourcing art supplies, as needed
  11. Keep daily anecdotal records of students.
  12. Direct Instructional Support Specialists assigned to the program/classroom.
  13. Perform all other duties as appropriate and determined by Principal/Administrator.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Education from an accredited university.
  2. Visual Arts Education (LQ) K-12 Endorsement.
  3. Experience in working with special needs students, preferred.
  4. Demonstrate and assist students to use different techniques and media to develop art works aligned to their artistic abilities.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work in an economically, culturally, and racially diverse environment.
  6. Ability to integrate technology into the curriculum
  7. Ability to communicate informational ideas in spoken and written language for clear understanding
  8. Willingness to participate in all phases of the instructional program.
  9. Ability to work constructively with parents, students and staff.
  10. Non-violent Crisis Intervention certification
  11. Must pass criminal background check as required by School Safety Legislation.

Salary: Per KIEA Master Agreement/ Commensurate with education and experience (BA Step 1-5 = $51,106-$61,927/year; BA+18 Step 1-5 = $54,644-$64,531/year; MA Step 1-5 = $57,766-68,695/year; MA+15 Step 1-5 = $60,370-$71,821/year; MA+MA,MA+30 Step 1-5 = $62,972-$74,423/year).
