NewsNation is looking for a Planning Editor to work as part of the network’s newsgathering team. The Planning Editor will help ensure that the network is well positioned to cover daily news, breaking news, special events, and special projects. The planning editor works collaboratively to help maintain the daily editorial and futures calendar. The person also helps to coordinate coverage and special projects by assisting in coordination of coverage plans, obtaining credentials as needed for correspondents, producers and crews, and arranging other logistics as needed. The role is in-person and based at network headquarters in Chicago.
Maximise your chances of a successful application to this job by ensuring your CV and skills are a good match.Duties & Responsibilities:• Work with planning editors to update daily editorial and futures calendar with accurate, updated, and complete editorial and logistics information• Coordinate coverage of news stories as needed by drafting coverage plans, obtaining media credentials, handling logistics• Support newsgathering by monitoring stories and updating editorial developments• Support field teams by offering research and support• Planning editor will at times be asked to fill in on the assignment desk as needed• Occasional field producing opportunities may develop• Perform other duties as assigned by Director of Newsgathering or other network leadershipRequirements & Skills:• Bachelor's degree in journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience• Five to ten years of newsroom experience ideally in national news or a top local market• Knowledge of PACER and federal and local court procedures is strongly preferred• Curiosity about domestic, international, and political stories is helpful• Strong writing, organizational, and people skills are vital• Attention to detail is key• The successful candidate will be a self-starter with excellent communication skills• The successful candidate will also be flexible and collaborative• The successful candidate will be able to work with diverse groups of people across NewsNation offices• Must be willing to work extended or modified shifts as news developments warrant• Must also be willing to work weekends and holidays as needed#LI-Onsite
