The
Communications Specialist
will provide communications and policy-related support to the Readiness Division, Office of Management Services, Bureau for Management. The Readiness Division is responsible for coordinating the Agency’s operational readiness, to include continuity of operations, emergency management, safety and health functions; domestic and overseas readiness assessments; and tabletop exercises. This position will be heavily involved in the communications for the division, including updating the intranet pages, drafting a variety of briefing and presentation materials, graphic design, policy analysis and drafting, event planning, and liaising with other Agency communications personnel.
Responsibilities
Analyze, evaluate, and make recommendations for new or modified management policies, regulations, processes, and procedures
Determine policy compliance with USAID and other federal regulations and provide recommendations on alignment
Research complex USAID administrative regulations and policy
Support the Senior Communications Specialist in the ideation, metrics development, and writing of a communications strategy for M/CCS
Co-manage and update the M/CCS Communications tracker
Draft key messages for presentations, blogs, newsletters, notices, memoranda, talking points, and website content
Write, edit, and format products and technical documents
Update the M/CCS intranet Content Management System pages (Drupal 9)
Input and format content into Agency Notices system
Organize Agency-wide events
Photograph and edit images
Draft presentation packages that include talking points, slides, run of shows
Anticipate ongoing and ad-hoc communication needs and provide timely responses to urgent taskers
In-office requirement of 3 days per week; telework 2 days per week
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree
5+ years of relevant experience
Experience working as an intern, support contractor, government staff, or industry staff is preferred
Secret clearance
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Mastery of communication principles, methods, practices, and techniques.
Expert oral and written communication skills to clearly present decision points for leadership, prepare formal responses to requests for information and provide advice, information, and guidance to functional personnel thoroughly and professionally.
Ability to communicate significant issues to leadership, other offices, coworkers, and the workforce, and the ability to communicate with all levels across the Agency.
Familiar with Drupal 9, Google platform, Gov Delivery, Canva, and similar software
Ability to travel domestically or internationally up to 10% of the time
Experience in and knowledge of USAID communications, operations, and policy is desirable though not required.
