The ideal candidate is deeply connected to the DMV (District, Maryland, Virginia) area, has a passion for local news, and thrives in a fast-paced, multi-platform media environment. This role is perfect for a visionary who enjoys writing, editing, coaching, and storytelling.The DC Editor will be responsible for curating stories for our print and digital editions, managing freelance writers and photographers, covering local events, and contributing to the paper’s front page. This is a unique opportunity to shape the editorial voice of the DC section while keeping the AFRO’s legacy of truth-telling alive.Key Responsibilities
Curate and elevate stories relevant to the DMV’s Black and multi-ethnic communities.Manage freelance writers, photographers, and student interns, ensuring high-quality reporting.Attend local events, including government, social, and community gatherings, to represent the AFRO.Create weekly editorial lineups for five to six stories for the DC section.Write compelling front-page articles on a weekly basis.Collaborate with photographers for event coverage with an emphasis on the Lifestyle section.Ensure stories meet AP style guidelines and maintain the highest editorial standards.
