Within Azure Data, the Business Intelligence (BI) team builds and maintains Power BI which is the undisputed leader in BI tool in the industry today and serves as the bridge between data professionals & Office users. Power BI’s core value proposition is to enable end users to get answers & insights from their data through data visualization.
As a UX Researcher II in the Power BI Research team, you will be responsible for uncovering the motivations, workflows, and habits of data professionals as well as data/insight explorers and consumers and bringing that expertise to the strategy, design, and growth to Power BI and, by extension, to many other adjacent products and services in the data cloud suite. Our UX Research team takes a multi-methods approach combining expertise and creativity with both quantitative and qualitative methods with big data analysis to identify emerging patterns and usage, and uncover user insights, unarticulated needs, and new product/service priorities. Our approach to product experience optimization is important, ongoing, and rigorous.

Responsibilities
Work closely with cross-functional product teams to develop a research plan that includes generative and evaluative research, and ensure the right data is being collected to positively impact the product direction.
Conduct a mixture of qualitative and quantitative research activities to inform product design, including but not limited to: usability studies, heuristic evaluations, interviews, surveys, user journey maps, benchmarks, and personas.
Communicate your findings in a clear, concise, and visual (when appropriate) manner to our key stakeholders on the product and design teams, and drive meaningful action based on those findings.
Create durable research insights that align with user-centered design principles and positively impact Power BI and overall Microsoft's Azure Data product portfolio.

Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, Computer Science, Technical Communications, Information Science, Information Architecture, User Experience Design, Behavioral Science, Social Sciences, or related field AND 2+ years User Experience Research experience
OR Master's Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, Computer Science, Technical Communications, Information Science, Information Architecture, User Experience Design, Behavioral Science, Social Sciences, or related field AND 1+ year(s) User Experience Research experienceo OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
1+ year(s) relevant domain experience within a highly technical space (e.g., AI, data warehousing, data integration, modeling, analytics) and particularly experience with Business Intelligence/data analytics tools.
1+ year(s) experience in research methods impacting both product direction and detailed experience design.
Demonstrated experience with a wide variety of design research methodologies including but not limited to: usability studies, prototype testing, concept value testing, field/remote studies, in-depth interviews, heuristic evaluations, user journey mapping, personas, competitive reviews, and surveys.
Ability to effectively and expeditiously plan and execute research against business needs.
Ability to quickly and effectively analyze research data and present rich findings simply and clearly to influence product design and direction.
Ability to deliver projects and customer insights that result in effective product impact.
Passion for learning new technologies and understanding the needs of users across a wide range of technical abilities.
Effective communication and project management skills.
UX Research IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
