UNC-Chapel Hill offers full-time employees a comprehensive benefits package , paid leave, and a variety of health, life and retirement plans and additional programs that support a healthy work/life balance.Primary Purpose of Organizational UnitThe Coastal Resilience Center conducts research and education to enhance the resilience of the nation's people, infrastructure, economies, and the natural environment to the impacts of coastal hazards such as floods and hurricanes, including the effects of climate change.Examples of Resilience Center projects and programs include:- Advancing the capabilities of the ADCIRC storm surge model and the ADCIRC Prediction System to deliver high-resolution storm surge and flooding predictions for approaching storms- Studies to advance coastal community planning to build resilience- Assistance to federal, state, and local governments to develop better predictions of coastal hazards and to integrate these into better mitigation, response and recovery planning- Improved communication of present day and future coastal risk to multiple audiences- Educating the next generation of hazards researchers and practitionersPosition SummaryThis position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.The Communications Manager position will use thorough knowledge of communications and marketing tools and techniques to promote the public presence of the UNC-CH Center for Natural Hazards Resilience (CNHR) and the associated Dept. of Homeland Security (DHS) Coastal Resilience Center (CRC). The position will engage in a full range of communications activities, including enhancing and maintaining websites and social media outlets; issuing media advisories; creating and distributing an electronic newsletter; producing and editing videos; assisting with outreach events, conferences, speaker series, meetings and other engagements; provide editing, writing and graphic design support for center-wide materials, including the annual report and workplan, fact sheets, and similar documents.The Communication Manager position serves as liaison to the DHS Science and Technology Office of University Programs (OUP) for communications and marketing purposes, and will provide materials, data and information to OUP upon request. The position also serves as liaison with the University communications and public relations offices. The Communication Manager is based at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; occasional travel may be required.Minimum Education and Experience RequirementsBachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
