Job Summary
The Communications Manager for the Provost Office at UW-Milwaukee will oversee and manage all communication efforts on behalf of the Provost. This role is crucial in advancing the strategic goals of the Provost’s office by ensuring that all communications are clear, consistent, and aligned with priorities. Responsibilities include drafting, editing, and coordinating weekly announcements and managing the Provost Office’s web presence. The Communications Manager will work closely with various stakeholders to gather and disseminate messages, handle crisis communications, and tailor messaging for different audiences, including faculty, students, and external stakeholders. Additionally, this role involves developing and implementing comprehensive communication strategies, managing timelines for communication projects, and ensuring the effectiveness of communication initiatives.
The position will also be responsible for managing a wide variety of administrative and executive duties, special projects, and initiatives involving the Provost’s office and its priorities. This includes serving as an advisor to the Provost, representing the interests and strategic priorities of the Provost through effective communication, coordination, and execution of University-wide projects. The ideal candidate will possess a high degree of judgment, resourcefulness, and flexibility. They must have the ability to work independently with limited direction and be a self-starter to solve problems and take actions to ensure progress on initiatives. The role requires a high level of discretion, integrity, and ethics, and ability to maintain confidential information.
This position requires full-time, on-site presence at the UW-Milwaukee campus.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field
Two years of professional experience in a communications or strategic planning role
Two years of professional experience in web content development and content management systems
Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills
Experience with, and ability to work independently, solve problems, and take initiative with minimal direction
Successful experience maintaining a high level of discretion, integrity, and an ability to maintain confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications
Experience serving in a communications related role in a university setting
Five years of professional experience in a communications or strategic planning role
Three years of professional experience in web content development and content management systems
Strong organizational and project management experience, including consistently producing a high quality and quantity of work, approaching projects analytically, strategically, creatively and professionally
Demonstration of strong oral and written communication skills, as evidenced by the clarity, coherence, and professionalism of the submitted application materials
Experience managing a varied and extensive portfolio of projects, working in a fast-paced environment with urgent deadlines and goals
Experience effectively collaborating with diverse teams and stakeholders
Target Salary Range $70,000 - $80,000/annually (Salary will be determined by finalist's experience, training, education, and equity-based factors.)
