Communications Specialist for
SCA Support Staff Services that supporting the Office of Press and Public Diplomacy (SCA/PPD). Washington, DC 20520. reports to the SCA/PPD Social Media Coordinator and the Deputy Spokesperson (Press Unit Chief). Duties include: drafting press and digital communications about U.S. policy in the region and supporting public and media outreach for SCA leadership. Incumbent will:Responsibilities:ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESServe as press social media, and outreach officer in the Bureau of South and Central Affairs Press and Public Diplomacy Office Press Section (SCA-Press).Work closely with SCA desk offices, other SCA senior officials and with the Bureau of Public Affairs to provide press guidance and digital content, and other and public affairs support on the full range of SCA issues.Develop communications outreach plans to effectively communicate U.S. policy on the region and support public events and travel for SCA leadership.Engage with domestic and international media to advance SCA policy priorities.Coordinate with other bureaus and offices to prepare senior officials for media engagements, executes engagements.Support the Office of the Spokesperson for daily press briefings and other activities, such as drafting and clearing press guidance and other media products for release.Develop and enhance SCA social media and digital content, including photos, infographics, and short videoclips).Provide administrative and logistical support for speaking engagements including domestic outreach by SCA principals, liaising with other State Department sections and U.S. government agencies as needed.Assist in managing internal digital archives and records of SCA media products and public outreach efforts.Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Required (Minimum Necessary) QualificationsEducationPreferably a Bachelor's degree in public affairs, international relations, area studies, journalism, digital communications or related degree.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other CharacteristicsQualificationsDemonstrated experience planning, writing, and editing press guidance and social media content about U.S. foreign policy or related topic.Must either possess a Secret security clearance or be able to obtain one.Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, to respond effectively to customers with a sense of urgency.Exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Self-starter with demonstrated experience working under unpredictable circumstances with little guidance or direction.Proficiency in Microsoft and Adobe toolsets, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Acrobat, etc.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.PreferredPreferably a Bachelor's degree in public affairs, international relations, area studies, journalism, digital communications or related degree.NECESSARY PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
