Makerspace and Creative Technologies Librarian
The Makerspace and Creative Technologies Librarian plays a central role in fostering tactile learning, entrepreneurship, and innovation by managing the Libraries' Makerspace, VR Lab, and Studio Spaces. This is a 12-month tenure-track faculty position reporting to the Head of Research and Scholarship.
The position manages and oversees the daily functions of the Makerspace, VR Lab, and Studio Spaces and leads a comprehensive training program on Makerspace equipment, safety, and procedures. The position is responsible for daily supervision and training of student assistants and interns in the Makerspace, VR Lab, and Studio Spaces. The selected candidate provides direct service in the Makerspace, VR Lab, and Studio Spaces, including assisting faculty and students in the use of 3D technologies, virtual and augmented reality and other technological and tactile tools. In addition, the librarian maintains and evaluates existing technology and prototypes new technologies for addition to the Makerspace, VR Lab, and Studio Spaces. This position also contributes to the profession and improvement of library services through service and scholarly/applied research.
The University Libraries are in the beginning stages of significant change, growth, and opportunity. A new library facility opened this semester that hosts an expanded makerspace and data visualization and VR labs, and podcasting studio spaces and a one-button studio. A ground-up redesign of our original library facility with newly re-envisioned study spaces featuring a new space for Archives and Special Collections is currently underway.

Required Qualifications for this position include a Master's degree in library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution or appropriate terminal degree.
Preferred Qualifications for this position include knowledge of makerspace technologies such as 3D printing, laser cutting, vinyl cutting and their pedagogical uses; evidence of, or interest in, VR and its applications in the curriculum; evidence of experience with podcasting technologies and the one-button studio concept; experience teaching others how to use technology. Applicant should possess strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills; demonstrating initiative, flexibility, and ability to work creatively and effectively in both collaborative and independent settings. Applicant should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to explain complex concepts to a wide range of users in individual and group settings.
