Job Description
As an Assignment Editor on the Network News Desk, you will work alongside a shift-based team and in collaboration with the bureaus on all domestic news coverage. You will provide editorial and logistical support to all platforms across broadcast, cable, digital, and streaming.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate the gathering and feeding of news materialsEffectively research & implement coverage of breaking news & ongoing storiesQuickly assess what is needed for coverage of a breaking storyCollaborate with NBC News digital, streaming, and broadcast platforms on newsgathering, social media initiatives, and content distributionCommunicate with important groups such as Legal, Standards, R&C to ensure appropriate editorial/usage guidance is obtained and disseminated to all platformsUse data to inform and evolve newsgathering, storytelling, and audience engagementInitiate & maintain communication with affiliates & News Channel counterpartsEffectively use & monitor social media sites & the webFacilitate and manage requests from all platforms for field teams on assignmentParticipate in daily network-wide conferencesEstablish & maintain working story & contact filesMonitor competitive broadcasts, cable, and digital platformsPut together a story coverage plan & layout with oversight from managementWork closely with Network, MSNBC & NBC News Now teams to accommodate their on-air needs (breaking news, correspondent requests, etc.)Coordinate with technical and operations staff on resource management
Qualifications
At least 3 years editorial production experience at a network, cable or digital outletBachelor's degree in journalism or related field, or equivalent work experienceProficient on newsroom systems and all social media outletsSolid working knowledge of TV production, affiliates & satellite operationsStrong news judgment & communication skills are essentialAbility to multi-task in a fast-paced environment & prioritize assignmentsMust be willing and able to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays, and overnights, under tight deadline pressure, occasionally with little or no warningMust be a team player; collaboration is keyDemonstrates strong knowledge and interest in news & current eventsMust be willing to work in New York, NY

Hybrid:
This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
This position is eligible for company-sponsored benefits, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.
