The A/V Engineer is responsible for conducting final testing and commissioning of complex Audio-Visual (AV) systems during and after system builds. This role provides both technical and managerial leadership on major tasks and technology projects, establishing goals and creating plans to meet project objectives. The Field Engineer collaborates closely with the Project Manager to document and provide results from system testing and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret and work from electronic schematics and architectural blueprints.
- Test and verify point-to-point functionality of systems.
- Review the project Scope of Work (SOW) to ensure installation quality and completeness.
- Test integrated systems and troubleshoot Crestron and DSP (Digital Signal Processing) systems.
- Field install control programs, with the capability to upload and download (Crestron | Biamp).
- Develop and modify code for DSP systems.
- Make minor programming adjustments under the guidance of an engineer or programmer.
- Optimize audio and video system performance.
- Configure IP-addressable devices for network communication.
- Provide client training and finalize project documentation as needed.
- Act as a liaison for clients in the absence of the Project Manager.
- Create, track, and complete project punchlists.
- Travel to various job sites as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong communication and professional interaction with internal staff, clients, and colleagues.
- Proven ability in business writing.
- Proficiency with test and calibration equipment.
- Support user acceptance testing.
- Basic programming skills (Crestron | Biamp) for minor changes and troubleshooting.
- Ability to diagnose complex system issues.
- Advanced knowledge of signal flow for audio, video, and control systems.
- Understanding of IP networking.
- High proficiency with PCs and related technology.
- Exceptional multitasking and adaptability to changing priorities.
- Ability to work independently while meeting deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record.
- Punctuality and reliability for scheduled work.
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to climb and work from ladders up to 35 feet and lift equipment, tools, and materials.
- Competency in reading building blueprints and electronic schematics.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Formal education in electronics or a related field.
- At least 5 years of AV installation experience.
- A four-year degree or military experience may be considered in place of job experience.
- Experience with enterprise video conferencing (VC) solutions such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet (both hardware and software).
- AVIXA General CTS (Certified Technical Specialist) certification preferred.
