Position Summary
The Senior Designer serves as part of CT's content design team led by our Creative Director to pursue ever-improving ideas and world-class aesthetics. Candidates should have a love for beautiful typography, effective design and thoughtful art direction. The Senior Designer will report to and collaborate with the print magazine Art Director to craft our Christianity Today print issues, ensuring superior quality in art and design.
The Senior Designer will work closely with CT's content design team and editorial staff to determine creative visual presentations and thoughtful reading experiences for individual articles. The Senior Designer will have opportunities to hire and collaborate with outside artists while being responsible for efficiency, consistency and beauty in layout design and typesetting for our print magazine.
Job Functions and Responsibilities
Collaborate with the Creative Director and Art Director on vision and establishing design excellenceCollaborate with content teams and creators to determine individual article needsTake art and layouts from concept to completionExecute technically and aesthetically sophisticated typographic solutionsDirect art photography and illustration within an established budget and timelineAssist with print-to-online migration of each issue, including article art, embedded imagery, and consideration of additional graphic elements or motionParticipate with titling - in collaboration with editorial leadershipCopy editing - keeping a watchful eye for errorsProvide feedback to other CT magazine designersDemonstrate the ability to think broadly about the implications of art and design across other ministry endeavors and platformsPerform additional job-related duties as assigned
Requirements
Education:Bachelor's degree or commensurate experienceExperience:
3-5 years of experience in the field of designExperience managing workflows, processes, and deadlinesExperience executing design systems for print, publications and branding is preferredExperience directing freelance artists and designers is preferredExperience working in Adobe InCopy is preferredKnowledge, Skills, and Attributes:
Proficient in Adobe Creative SuiteProficient in layout and typographyDesire to learn and grow in the field of art directionAbility to work collaboratively across diverse teamsStrong attention-to-detail and organizedPractical understanding of web UX/UI design and functionality is preferredAdditional Information
