Job ResponsibilitiesProduces design drawings using automated/GIS products, maps, exhibits, and reports from notes, aerial and satellite photography, marked prints, digital data source, verbal/written instructions, calculations, or rough field sketches.Maintains Smallworld database, including Schematic and Field Installation Records (FIR).Under the direction of a Designer or Design Consultant, the Design Technician produces all design drawings in accordance with company requirements for clearances and line design, construction, and maintenance standards.Interprets, extracts, validates, and integrates engineering and geographic data from internal and external customers, engineers, and analysts to construct the required products.Prepares and conducts training of resources to improve their skills in preparation for more complex assignments and subsequent advancement.Performs pre-defined engineering calculations per distribution design, construction, and maintenance policies, procedures, and standards.Submits appropriate permit requests to municipalities and other governmental agencies.Submits requests for equipment inspections, surface locate, potholes, survey, and easement acquisition/verification to all necessary departments.Creates material list based upon construction ready prints and submits for review.Prepares, interprets, and coordinates processing documents for updating GIS systems.Performs field checks and verifies accuracy of maps, exhibits, and records.Shares in the development of GIS applications and mapping procedures.Makes recommendations for process improvements.Determines detail requirements on minor designs for distribution system and supports design function of major projects.Performs other duties that may be assigned.
Basic QualificationsExperience in one of the following areas: CAD Technician, MSD, Design Technician, GIS Technician, Engineering Technician, or other related experience.Experience with AutoCAD preferred.
