is growing, and we'd love to have you join our team! We are currently seeking a Lighting Designer Engineering Graduate in our
Chicago
, IL office.
The Lighting Designer 1 will be responsible for assisting senior lighting design staff with a wide variety of design and documentation tasks. These may include assisting in luminaire selections, lighting layouts, calculating the illuminance targets, creating client presentations, and documenting the design selections in Revit or less frequently AutoCAD. Other responsibilities may include coordinating with other IMEG teams, architects and interiors designers, and lighting reps and manufacturers.
Principal Responsibilities
• Determining appropriate design standards and illuminance and uniformity targets based on IES recommendations
• Assist in selecting appropriate luminaire options and specifying these in a luminaire schedule; Provide graphic support to the senior lighting design by creating visual presentations using power point, Bluebeam, InDesign, photoshop, AGI32, or other methods to illustrate design concepts for client meetings
• Assist in creating luminaire layouts and or perform illuminance calculations using AGI32 software • Draft lighting layouts including basic control sensors as well as drafting lighting control sequence of operations and zone schedules in Revit or more rarely in AutoCAD
• Coordinate with electrical engineering teams on circuiting, emergency lighting, and energy code documentation (ComCheck) as well as other engineering teams
• Coordinate with Luminaire and controls representatives for product information and pricing
• Correspond and coordinate with interior designers and architects as needed throughout the project • Be an active member and actively contribute to the local section of the illuminating engineering society
• Attend project job site visits to review existing conditions or luminaire/controls installations
• Assist in creating and attending luminaire mockups either in office or at a project job site
Required Skills/Abilities
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
• Knowledge of industry standard engineering software; Revit, AutoCAD, Photoshop, InDesign, Blue Beam, and AG132 Lighting
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges
• Basic knowledge in the use of BIM software
• Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
• Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Ability to travel up to 5% with occasional overnight stays
Education and Experience
Associates degree, or certificate in Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Engineering preferred3 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred in the building design consulting or constructionindustryThis position is
