Associate Director, Corporate Affairs, Enterprise Media
What you will do
Let’s do this! Let’s change the world! In this role you will be at the forefront of Amgen’s biggest news as a company spokesperson and media strategist on the global media relations team. The Corporate Affairs Associate Director, Enterprise Media Relations, will be responsible for driving the reputation of Amgen and our priority products, pipeline and functions.
This position reports to the Enterprise Media Relations Lead, Corporate Affairs, operating as a self-starter while working on a collaborative and high performing 5-member team. This position can sit remotely in the U.S. and does not need to be based in Thousand Oaks, CA.
In this role, you will need to:
Demonstrate experience leading media relations strategies and outreach, specifically for pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology products and late-stage pipeline candidates
Proactively uncover interesting stories and news angles
Possess strong existing reporter relationships and a demonstrated track record of working with news media on a variety of topics from data and milestones to feature profile stories
Collaborate with the Global Commercial Organization communications teams, the Enterprise Content Team and Functional communications leads
Clearly and confidently represent a media relations perspective while working collaboratively with other functions and colleagues at various levels
Serve as a Company spokesperson, showing unflappable poise and confidence
Be an independent, self-starter with a proactive news mindset, while acting as a team player
Have a hunger for learning about new media outlets and innovative tools, including AI in communications, while also using data to inform decisions
Lead media preparation and training of spokespeople
Confidently problem-solve, including knowing when to escalate potential challenges, and quickly learn how to work within a matrixed organization
Provide direction to PR agency partners as appropriate
Be prepared to travel to major conferences and events, occasional deskside briefings, as well as to Amgen sites in the U.S. or globally
Develop communications and media materials

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree and 3 years of communications or public relations experience
Or
Master’s degree and 5 years of communications or public relations experience
Or
Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of communications or public relations experience
Or
Associate’s degree and 12 years of communications or public relations experience
Or
High school diploma / GED and 14 years of communications or public relations experience
Preferred Qualifications:
7-12 years of experience in communications, with majority of time focused on media relations
Experience speaking with media on a variety of subjects
Deep understanding of the biotechnology industry and communications environment (US required, plus additional major markets preferred)
Experience navigating drug approvals, data milestones and regulatory decisions
Demonstrated skills in delivering communications strategies and results in a complex organization
Ability to prioritize resources and effectively communicate with leadership
Appreciation of nuanced, regulated and confidential information
Strong written, spoken and interpersonal communication skills with attention to detail; polished, poised presenter
Ability to efficiently navigate an exciting and dynamic environment
Strong critical thinking, problem-solving and planning skills
Collaboratively work with a diverse group of people and backgrounds
Attention to detail, ability to craft messages and develop presentations

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
