joining our team remotely to support the
Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)
Marketplace Assister Technical Support (MATS) program.At GDIT, people are our differentiator. As a 508 Document Remediation Specialist/ Technical Writer, you will be trusted to work closely with the MATS Training Team to provide
Section 508 compliance
document accessibility reviews and document remediation to ensure all training deliverables comply with Section 508 of the
Rehabilitation Act standards
and are accessible for individuals with physical, sensory, or cognitive disabilities. You will also build subject matter expertise in health care laws and regulations to draft and edit public-facing documents in plain language, including training storyboards, slide presentations, policy documents, user guides, and other technical support materials. In this role, a typical day will include: HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT Using Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Pro, including the Accessibility Checker in both programs, to identify and remediate errors in Section 508 compliance, including errors in document structure, headings, reading order, images, charts and tables, and any other document accessibility issues. Editing and finalizing documents to follow a logical order when read by text-to-speech software (e.g., JAWS). Designing and developing document and file templates that adhere to 508 accessibility guidelines. Advising staff on policy and best practices for creating accessible materials. Researching, preparing, and editing public-facing health policy technical documents for publication, including webinars, job aids, fact sheets, and standard operating procedures. Preparing, editing, and standardizing storyboards for various web-based training products. Preparing and editing contract deliverables as assigned, including meeting minutes, internal job aids, and quick reference guides. Building content expertise while using solid proofreading and layout skills to develop polished client deliverables. Supporting program-wide development of training content and materials by distilling complex health policy and technical support topics in plain language. Ensuring documents meet customer specifications, including standards for quality, graphics, format, and style. Maintaining current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned. Acting as a liaison between the program and CMS regarding team members' access to CMS systems and tools. Completing other duties and special projects as assigned.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED
Bachelor's degree in public policy, public administration, business, English, communications, or other related field. 5+ years of hands-on experience preparing and editing technical documents. Strong proficiency producing, editing, and finalizing documents, including PDFs, that are Section 508 compliant/readable by text-to-speech software, such as
JAWS . Hands-on experience tracking schedules and/or project milestones and troubleshooting delays with stakeholders. Strong proficiency in
Microsoft Office Suite , including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and the
Accessibility Checker
for each. Strong proficiency with
Adobe Acrobat Pro
and its Accessibility Checker. Candidate must be able to obtain Public Trust clearance. Candidate must have lived in the United States at least three (3) out of the last five (5) years.
Preferred Skills :
Motivated to learn new skills and flexibility to take on a variety of tasks (e.g. writing, editing, tracking, and project support). Ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal oversight. Experience with SnagIt or similar screen capture and recording software. Ability to set priorities, manage time, and work under time constraints. Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to multitask. Sound analytic, problem solving, and qualitative skills. Strong customer service in the form of good work product and project-task management experience. Knowledge of health care policy issues related to implementation of the ACA, HealthCare.gov, and Federally-facilitated Marketplaces. Health Care Industry or Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) experience. Proven team player with a customer service-oriented and solution-focused attitude.

Salary and Benefit Information
The likely salary range for this position is $76,690 - $97,750. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
