POSITION SUMMARY
A fire sprinkler Designer is responsible for creating detailed plans and specifications for the installation of automatic fire sprinkler systems in various types of buildings, such as residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional structures. The Designer reports to the Design Manager.
OBJECTIVES

Assessing building blueprints and specifications to determine the most effective placement and type of sprinkler system required.
Calculating water flow and pressure requirements based on building size, occupancy type, and fire hazards.
Selecting appropriate sprinkler heads, pipes, valves, and other components to meet building code and safety standards.
Creating detailed drawings and schematics that illustrate the layout of the sprinkler system, including pipe routing, location of sprinkler heads, and connection points.
Coordinating with architects, engineers, contractors, and local authorities to ensure compliance with building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
Prepare shop drawings that are complete and ACCURATE.
Prepare and submit closeout documents as required by the project.
Prepare detailed stocklist for purchasing to order the materials needed for the job.
Collaborate with fabrication teams to ensure the correct material is making it to the field.
Complete submittal packages prepared and delivered to the Authority Having Jurisdiction, customers, and any other required entities for that project.
Coordinate with other trades to ensure our installation goes as smoothly as possible, helping our field teams to avoid conflicts on the jobsite. This includes BIM coordination on projects where it is required.
Thorough analysis of construction documents, including plans and specifications, to ensure we deliver the product our customers expect.
Be disciplined in utilizing design checklists to ensure required information is on the project documents.
Present yourself professionally, and attend project meetings leading up to the start of construction, and as required after construction has begun.
Must submit and release at set deadlines to ensure our team stays on schedule as the project progresses. The designer's punctuality and attention to project schedule is crucial for the success of our field team getting to start the job on time. You must be results-driven and carry a sense of urgency of achieving those results.
Providing technical support and guidance during the installation, testing, and commissioning of the sprinkler system.
Conducting site visits and inspections to verify that the installed system meets design specifications and regulatory requirements.
Work closely with the Design Manager to analyze metrics and KPI's associated with this position to assess progress towards goals and identify areas for improvement.
COMPETENCIES
Comprehensive understanding of fire protection systems, building codes, local regulations, and industry standards.
Ability to perform complex calculations to determine water flow, pressure, and pipe sizing requirements for fire sprinkler systems.
Meticulous attention to detail is necessary to ensure accuracy in calculations, drawings, and specifications.
Effective communication skills.
Ability to stay informed on industry trends, competitor activity, and market developments to adapt sales strategies.
Aptitude for identifying and resolving issues that may arise during the design process or project installation.
Technologically proficient with AutoCAD, Revit, Hydraulic Calculation software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree in business administration, engineering technology, or a closely related field is preferred, but not required.
Minimum of 2-years in fire sprinkler design or NICET Level II
Comprehensive understanding of the fire protection industry and applicable regulations. Professional certifications related to fire protection, business management, or leadership are advantageous, such as NICET Certification.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The ability to maintain a high level of energy and stamina to manage long hours, travel requirements, and the stress associated with high-level decision making.
The ability to travel, sometimes extensively, to meet with clients in different locations. While primarily a skill, the physical aspect includes the ability to speak clearly and effectively in public and private settings, and to engage in face-to-face meetings. Good general health to fulfill job responsibilities effectively, including being able to work long hours when necessary.
