Location: Hybrid: primarily remote, but required to travel to our Provincial Office (1179 King St W, Toronto, ON, M6K 3C5) or a regional office when required
Hours: 37.5hrs per week
Annual Salary: $65,000 - $70,000
Duration: until March 31st, 2025, with an opportunity for extensionPosition OverviewReporting to the Educational Technology Supervisor, the Instructional Designer will play a pivotal role in the successful implementation and management of content for our Learning Management Systems (LMS). The Instructional Designer will be responsible for creating engaging and effective instructional materials that incorporate multimedia elements to enhance learning experiences. This role combines the principles of instructional design, learning experience design, and graphic design to develop content that is accessible and maintains its integrity. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in educational design, a keen eye for visual detail, and a commitment to accessibility.

Key Responsibilities:
- Develop content to support learning within Autism Ontario and for the wider public about autism and supporting autistic people,
- Work with subject matter experts to develop learning experiences informed by educational and learning design theories and practices (UDL, Multimedia Learning, Bloom, Gagne, Kirkpatrick, etc.)
- Design, develop and build learning materials through authoring tools, learning management systems (LMS), and Office 365,
- Use educational technology tools to craft interactive and engaging learning activities, videos and resources,
- Consult with other team members to lead them through instructional design processes,
- Organize internal and external reviews of content to ensure they reflect current practice and the needs of the community,
- Provide support and consultation on educational technology tools to support learning,
- Review educational content to ensure accessibility requirements are met,
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree/post secondary in Instructional Design, Learning Experience Design, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in instructional design, multimedia development, or a related role.
- Knowledge of Autism is an asset.
- Experience in HTML is an asset.
- Strong understanding of instructional design principles and practices, including the ADDIE and/or SAM model, adult learning principles, interactive learning design, blended learning techniques, user experience testing and accessibility standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 suite. Proficiency in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite).
- Experience with e-learning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate, Captivate).
- Knowledge of learning management systems (LMS), specifically Absorb and Brightspace, and content management systems (CMS).
- Excellent collaboration, and project management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and a creative approach to problem-solving.
- Demonstrate superior oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in French or additional language skills is an asset.
