Job Summary:
The Technical Writer/Copy Editor is responsible for creating, editing, and designing a range of publications, including case studies, reports, and promotional materials. This role combines writing, copyediting, and visual design skills to produce professional, polished end products. The ideal candidate will collaborate with authors, editors, and design teams to ensure high-quality content and seamless production from concept to final print or digital formats. Provide professional editing services, including writing/editing social sciences research publications such as books, articles, manuscripts, journals and other academic materials at the post-graduate level. Shall have demonstrated familiarity with state-of-the-art processes, procedures and guidelines for professional editing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop final layouts for case studies, reports, policy documents, and other publications, integrating text, graphics, typography, and visuals.
- Collaborate with authors, editors, and stakeholders on concept development, content refinement, and image selection.
- Coordinate with pre-press teams to ensure smooth content preparation, meet production deadlines, and submit files according to production requirements.
- Create detailed specifications for production, including format, paper stock, binding, inks, prepress, and proofs.
- Research and select images, working with photographers and stock image providers to purchase high-quality visuals for publication.
- Consult with copyright specialists to ensure legal compliance for all photographic and graphic materials used.
- Manage and maintain records of production information and archival backups for all digital files.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and design templates for consistent layout and formatting across various publications.
- Work with web teams to align the design and layout of digital content with the needs of various product series.
- Collaborate with the graphics department to create required visuals and media-related content for projects.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator, as well as Canva.
- Strong copyediting and writing skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Experience with page layout, typography, and graphic design.
- Knowledge of production processes, including working with printers and pre-press teams.
- Familiarity with copyright law and image licensing.
- Excellent project management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
- Experience in technical writing or editing, particularly for publications and reports, is preferred.
