GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

As an integral part of our management team, the Design Manager will collaborate closely with the Director of Technical Operations and the Vice President of Construction to develop and execute comprehensive strategies and objectives for the successful completion of design projects. To excel in this role, the ideal candidate will be a skilled leader and mentor, adept at articulating job expectations, and providing constructive performance feedback. This is an employee centric role focused on supporting the designers and their individual needs. Additionally, the Design Manager will be responsible for evaluating and fostering the professional growth of team members, supporting a vibrant and productive work environment.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS/DUTIES

  • Acts as Player/Coach for and within the Design team
  • Available as a software how-to resource
  • Design standard implementation/enforcement
  • Studies and teaches AutoSPRINK software standards
  • Controls timesheet review/approval for design team
  • Manages Vacation review/approval process for design team
  • Monitors job scope review/clarification
  • Manages cost to complete for design team
  • Resource for pricing impacts that require change in design scope
  • Responsible for team member capacity/project milestone tracking
  • Coordinate with Project Manager to ensure design work is completed in accordance with project schedule.
  • Review contract package including drawings, specifications, and all applicable supplemental documents to determine project scope to ensure design adherence to said documents.
  • Schedule design progress reviews as required to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Check work of design department members including layout, form, fit, function, materials, specification callouts, geometrics, dimensioning and other out-put as needed to ensure successful project.

DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communicate with Designers to discuss tasks and priorities; resolve scheduling conflicts.
  • Review and approve design work to ensure quality and compliance including but not limited to fire sprinkler progress drawings, submittals, and material lists.
  • Provide feedback, guidance, and training to the design team.
  • Collaborate with other departments to establish and maintain the design timeline and budgets.
  • Collaborate with other departments to establish and maintain the design standards.
  • Continuously monitor and refine the design process for efficiency enhancements.
  • Invest in the educational and professional development of designers to foster skill growth and proficiency.

WEEKLY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze previous week's trends, shortcomings, and areas of improvement to develop and implement strategies for the upcoming week.
  • Collect and evaluate feedback from other departments on completed tasks to develop new growth strategies.
  • Attending weekly meetings to proactively update tasks and priorities based on project progress.
  • Manage the design team's workload and ensure that deadlines are met.

MONTHLY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Stay up to date on the latest design trends and technologies.
  • Review and optimize design processes to identify and eliminate inefficiencies.
