POSITION OVERVIEW
Flowers are at the heart of our company’s history and design culture. Van Wyck is seeking an experienced Floral Designer with the vision and passion to collaborate and create beauty, leading floral design and operations for our private and brand events. This role is responsible for recruiting and managing an excellent florist team, ensuring the successful planning and on-site execution of floral elements. The Floral Designer will work closely with event project managers to create exceptional floral designs. Regular travel is required between NJ and NY, with additional national and international travel as needed for event installations and project oversight.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Advance Event Planning and On-Site Execution:
  • Lead with design, creating original floral concepts that align with event themes and client vision, ensuring innovative and high-quality floral designs for each project.
  • Collaborate with event project managers to design floral concepts and review them for alignment with the event vision and client expectations.
  • Collaborate with event project managers and the production team to synchronize event timelines, ensuring the successful integration of floral elements into the larger event.
  • Manage the purchase of all company flowers and inventory, ensure timely deliveries, adhere to the floral budget, and account for all elements before event installation.
  • Lead and supervise the florist team in the on-site execution of floral designs, ensuring installations are completed efficiently and to Van Wyck & Van Wyck’s standards.
  • Oversee production and logistics preparation, ensuring a clean and organized workspace, systematic labeling, efficient packing for transport, and seamless on-site staging of floral elements.
  • Act as the key supervisory point of contact for all floral-related decisions during the event execution phase.
  • Troubleshoot on-site challenges, making design adjustments as needed to ensure quality and client satisfaction.

Florist Team Management
  • Manage the scheduling and assignment of the florist team to events, ensuring proper coverage and time management.
  • Review florists’ timecards bi-weekly to ensure accuracy of hours worked and proper allocation to events.
  • Oversee the florist team’s adherence to design plans and event timelines, providing on-the-ground supervision and direction.
  • Supervise and mentor florist team during events, providing guidance to maintain high-quality standards.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
  • 10+ years of floral design and event production experience.
  • Ability to develop creative floral designs that align with the event’s vision.
  • Proven ability to lead teams in high-pressure, on-site environments.
  • Expertise in managing large-scale events with complex floral needs.
  • Strong knowledge of floral varieties, seasonal availability, and care.
  • Experience with large-scale floral installations, from design to on-site production, ensuring aesthetic quality.
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills, addressing both logistical and design challenges.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration, with the ability to work across multiple teams.
  • Strong floral budget management skills with a proven track record.
  • Strong organizational skills, managing large-scale projects under tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster positive relationships with vendors and teams.
  • Proactive, self-driven, and capable of working independently.
  • Must hold a valid passport with the ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed for event installations and project oversight.
The ideal candidate has the following qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, interior design, architecture, or related fields.
  • Ability to create floor plans and site plans in AutoCAD.
  • Skilled in creating design presentations in Powerpoint.
  • Proficiency in time-tracking tools is a plus.
