Let’s Redefine Possible® SUMMARY Mortenson is currently seeking an Assistant Design Phase Manager in the Power Group with the ability to interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. The Assistant Design Phase Manager is responsible for providing technical project leadership during the design phase as it relates to customer experience, financial performance, schedule, estimating, design, and planning those results in a smooth transition to construction operations. Provide project leadership during the design phase of smaller-scale projects and/or support the Design Phase Manager with project leadership during the design phase of larger-scale projects. May work on two (2) projects simultaneously or one (1) larger project. RESPONSIBILITIES Lead the Mortenson project team in achieving, schedule alignment, an integrated team experience, and construction readiness Establish and manage project budget, scope expectations, and ensure alignment between them Manage budget trending logs, and any associated communications and resources Support the Design Phase Manager and/or Project Executive with the management of design phase cost issues Create and manage project schedules and key milestones, coordinating with stakeholders and managing accountability for meeting set achievements during the design phase Leading and coordination of due diligence for permitting and code compliance requirements that apply to each project. Ensure regulatory approvals and permits are obtained Management of the proposal and design phase in alignment with our estimate, the RFP, and current procurement lead times Coordination and management of the proposal process during an active RFP Ensure proper alignment of design documents and project execution plan across all internal and external stakeholders Identify and resolve technical design and specification concerns Manage and/or attend project site visits as necessary during the pursuit and design phase Coordination of design reviews and alignment on standard layouts with the Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) team Responsible for bid packages (designer and/or trade partner), third-party reviewer bid packages, and contract manuals Coordination and management of Design Phase meetings with the Owner, Design partners, and internal team members Support the Design Phase Manager and/or Construction Executive with negotiating agreements, including but not limited to owners, designers, trade partners, critical equipment purchase agreements, and third-party review consultants Coordination of Risk and Legal review of the EPC Agreement and key Exhibits, while communicating clarification in our proposal response. Ensure Mortenson project teams conduct timely constructability reviews Assist in project margin plan development and alignment during the design phase Foster an integrated team experience through communication and collaboration Manage, mentor, and guide design phase team engineers and project/field engineers supporting pre-construction efforts to ensure clear direction and career growth Manage project transition process to the project management team Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels Lead team members by example, offer effective coaching and feedback, and effectively manage performance All other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS Minimum five years of relevant experience Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple project tasks Basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices Microsoft Office, project, and pertinent web application skills at an intermediate level Shown positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback Knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity, inclusive behaviors, and Affirmative Action plans and their intended use Ability to travel up to 25% Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, Estimating, or equivalent field Mortenson is an EOE/Affirmative Action/M/F/Veteran/Disabled employer.
