Tandem
Tandem is hiring: Founding Designer in New York
Tandem, New York, NY, United States
Why you should join us
Tandem is a generational opportunity to rethink how we bring new therapies to market, and our path to doing so is significantly de-risked - we have:
Exponential organic growth: We have product-market fit and are growing rapidly through word-of-mouth. Tandem supports thousands of patients every week and is doubling physician user count every month. We will reach millions by 2025.
An AI-first business model: Our approach is distinctly enabled by AI, but our business will get stronger (not commoditized) as foundation models improve. We are building durability through two-sided network effects that will compound over time.
Top tier investors: With the traction to support conviction in our model, we raised significant funding from investors (including Thrive Capital, General Catalyst, Bain Capital Ventures, and Pear VC) to build an exceptional team of engineers and operators.
Our number one priority is scaling to market demand . We are looking for individuals who are high horsepower, high throughput, and hyper resourceful to help us increase capacity and grow. We move fast and need to move faster.
All full-time roles are in person in New York. You can learn more about working with us in the last section of this page.
About the role
We are looking for a Founding Designer to establish our Design function and be a strategic partner across the business, reporting directly to our CEO. You will guide how Tandem is built for, experienced by, and communicated to our broad range of stakeholders, ensuring we are optimizing for growth and impact. While product will be your primary focus, this role requires comfort overseeing the development of our brand and presence online and in the real world. You will own all aspects of design and be responsible for the scope and timelines of both internal projects and external support.
Tandem's brand and product design needs are a unique combination of challenges-we are building for a wide variety of users, from patients with Alzheimer's to leaders at companies like Pfizer, aiming to create consumer-grade experiences in an esoteric space. We are committed to investing in design, and we are looking for someone to push our thinking.
If you join, you will: Lead design and user experience for our full company surface area, including:
Consumer- and provider-facing applications (external) and user support experiences.
Tools for our team and outsourced staff (internal), including integration of AI features.
Public website and landing pages for consumers, providers, and enterprise partners.
Branding and marketing initiatives, including both digital and print materials (and merch!).
Prioritize, scope, and spearhead individual design projects-this means establishing design patterns, building out low- and high-fidelity designs, prototyping, and supporting launches.
Facilitate user research to ensure we deeply understand our users' needs and pain points.
Participate actively in client engagements, working directly with customers to understand requirements and deliver innovative solutions.
Establish and improve the design systems, processes, and tools that will allow us to scale our product surface area and brand over time.
Determine when and how we should build out our design team and use external resources
Work closely with the rest of our team and CEO to make business decisions as we balance speed of growth and long-term profitability.
We'll be most excited if you have:
5+ years of software product design experience at tech companies and/or digital product agencies
Compelling examples of designing data-rich user experiences that abstract complex workflows
Impeccable visual/interaction design skills and taste
Experience working with software engineers to build and ship software (technical background is preferred)
Strong written and verbal communication that allows you to be an effective participant in both internal debates and external relationships
Track record of moving quickly, finding shortcuts, and going to unreasonable lengths to deliver on goals
High NPS with your former teammates
This is a list of ideal qualifications for this position. If you don't meet every single one of them, you should still consider applying! We're excited to work with people from underrepresented backgrounds, and we encourage people from all backgrounds to apply.
