SUMMARY Prepares complicated mechanical assembly, weldment and customer drawings of new or revised products by means of mechanical drawing board or computerized electronic drafting system (CAD). Some hand sketching may be required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILTIES Advance knowledge of Merrick products and applications Working knowledge of weld symbols and common tools used by Machinists and Assemblers Proficient in AutoCAD and Inventor Strong organization, communication and interpersonal skills Strong attention to detail Ability to manage multiple projects Ability to read and understand custom specifications Ability to use mechanical drawings, schematics, diagrams, and computers to develop specific custom applications ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Receives work orders, design and layout drawings, sketches, memos and instructions for use in preparing layout and limited design drawings of new and revised products or customer parts by means of computerized drafting system. Originates sketches, layouts, and marked prints. Ensures designs meet all safety and environmental requirements. Assists in determining parts needed for projects. May assist with purchasing requirements to include contacting vendor on part availability. Makes and prepares parts and specifications required to make limited part designs. (basic volume and area calculations) Determines drawing size requirements. Locates company number references in standard parts catalog, calculate weights and prepare bills of material on drawings. Originate, check and maintain engineering change notice (ECN) Log, expedite design applications with manufacturing operations to meet schedules. May provide more advanced assistance to manufacturing group on drawing design and quality control problems, spare part replacements and elimination's. May be required to assist in assembling products in order to teach and/or learn new products. Uses proper procedures to eliminate the generation of new part numbers for existing components. Makes use of existing inventory wherever possible. Fixes errors in existing drawings as identified. May serve on various company committees such as on engineering standards and product design assurance programs. Functions in a workplace of dignity and respect for all. Performs other similar or related duties as assigned, or as necessary, to accomplish the department's objectives in an effective manner. Follows all safe work practices, watches out for fellow workers, and keeps their work area clean. Ensures area remains compliant regarding hazardous waste, non-hazardous waste and universal waste. The following personal protection equipment is required and must be worn while working in the manufacturing facility or customers' facilities: Company approved safety glasses or goggles Company approved steel toe shoes. Ear protection in designated areas. Appropriate hand protection and clothing to include Merrick provided arc flash shirts. Fall protection, head protection, respiratory protection and other safety equipment as required by each individual facility. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school (preferably with focus in digital manufacturing); and minimum of three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE SKILLS: Microsoft Office programs, AutoCAD R14 or greater and Autodesk Inventor. EQUIPMENT: Computer and other general office equipment. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Certificate or Associate Degree in Mechanical Drafting preferred.
